Please join us for drinks and networking the evening before the Workshop.
Morning Sessions - Wednesday, June 17, 2015
  • 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. | Registration and Continental Breakfast
  • 9:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. | Welcome and Introduction
John MacKrell, Vice President, Systems Engineering Knowledge Council Lead, CIMdata [Bio]
  • 9:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. | The Platformization of Product Development: The Role of Modeling & Simulation
Don Tolle, Director, Systems Engineering & Simulation Consulting Practice, CIMdata [Bio]
The discipline of new product development is entering an era of accelerating change as engineered products become more complex and increasingly software intensive systems and even systems of systems. The shift towards enabling robust and resilient business platforms focused on product innovation requires fundamental changes for all industry participants and will increasingly rely on modeling and simulation to be a core element of their product innovation platform. To be successful going forward, PLM solution providers must provide a breadth and depth of integrated capabilities as well as adhere to industry standards and the openness of interfaces that permit their solutions to be adaptable, extensible, scalable and compatible with other enterprise business platforms. This presentation will discuss this major industry development and how product-innovation enablement is evolving.
  • 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. | Networking Break
  • 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. | OSLC’s Role in Supporting Model-Based Systems Engineering
Dr. Axel Reichwein, Independent Consultant and Co-chair of the OMG OSLC4MBSE Working Group [Bio]
The Web provides a reliable, scalable, and open infrastructure. Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is an initiative to reuse Web standards for the purpose of integrating engineering data. Currently, OSLC is mainly used for integrating software engineering artifacts such as requirements, change requests, test cases, performance metrics and automated workflows. However, OSLC can also be used beyond software engineering for linking engineering artifacts across different engineering disciplines and applications. OSLC can therefore be viewed as a possible foundation for developing the next-generation of data integration solutions. This presentation will demonstrate how OSLC supports an MBSE environment.
  • 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Networking Over Lunch
Afternoon Sessions – Wednesday, June 17, 2015
  • 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Contextual Requirements Management: Capturing, Tracking, and Re-using Requirements in the User's Language
David Vredenburgh, Co-Founder & CTO, SBE Vision [Bio]
A discussion of how to define, capture, and manage requirements and changes to requirements, how requirements are decomposed (allocated) into lower level requirements and how they are allocated to product design elements (such as product models, software modules, and CAD features, etc.) Tools and processes that are used to track and validate requirements against relevant design information as the design progresses will be described. Particular emphasis on approaches to, and value of, end-to-end traceablity.
  • 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. | Panel Discussion: Implementing Model-based Systems Engineering: The Challenges and Opportunities
Moderated by Don Tolle, Director, Systems Engineering & Simulation Consulting Practice, CIMdata [Bio]
    – David Vredenburgh, Co-Founder & CTO, SBE Vision [Bio]
    – Dr. Axel Reichwein, Independent Consultant and Co-chair of the OMG OSLC4MBSE Working Group [Bio]
The panel will bring their considerable collective experiences in systems engineering to have a lively discussion of best practices, strategies, and technologies for dealing with requirements management to support systems engineering today. Questions will be taken from attendees as time allows.
  • 3:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Networking Break
  • 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. | Working Session: Driving Future Systems Engineering Research
Facilitated by John MacKrell, Vice President, Systems Engineering Knowledge Council Lead, CIMdata [Bio]
  • 4:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. | Closing Comments
