Fanshawe engineering students to benefit from major Siemens PLM Software grant

Fanshawe is pleased to announce a new academic partnership with Siemens Canada that will provide learning opportunities for the College’s engineering students.

The in-kind grant, with a commercial value of more than $248 million CAD will enable students in the School of Applied Science and Technology to use the same software technology in their classroom that businesses around the world utilize to design some of today's most sophisticated products.  The grant includes NX™ software, a leading integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering, from Siemens’ PLM Software business.

“This investment by Siemens PLM Software will help us unlock the potential of our engineering students, ensuring they are well prepared for relevant and rewarding careers upon graduation,” says Fanshawe President Peter Devlin. “We thank Siemens for their support of Fanshawe College.”

Siemens PLM Software is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services for a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, machinery, medical devices, shipbuilding and electronics.

By utilizing Siemens’ PLM Software for course work, research and other academic studies, Fanshawe engineering students will develop the advanced skills required by the more than 77,000 global customers who already utilize Siemens' software and technology solutions, including 29 of the world's top 30 automakers.

“Siemens understands that the skills needed for the future of manufacturing are very different from what we have needed in the past,” says Robert Hardt, President & CEO, Siemens Canada, “We are dedicated to empowering the next generation of digital talent by providing students with the advanced technology necessary to become the leading engineers of the digital future.”

Dave Machacek, chair of Fanshawe’s School of Applied Science and Technology looks forward to working with a global corporation that is on the leading edge of PLM technology.

“This partnership enables us to meet the needs of employers, while preparing our students for a variety of STEM related careers,” said Machacek. “Our students will gain real-world experience during their studies by using the same technology in the classroom that is used by companies worldwide.”

London-based Longterm Technology Services Inc., a Siemens Channel Partner, worked closely with Fanshawe and Siemens PLM Software on this grant.
