Micrus Endovascular Selects Pilgrim Software On-Demand Solutions for Document & Training Management

Pilgrim Software, Inc. announced that Micrus Endovascular Corporation, a manufacturer and marketer of both implantable and disposable medical devices used in the treatment of cerebral vascular diseases, will implement Pilgrim’s SmartSolve® solutions through Pilgrim’s On-Demand “SaaS” model.

Micrus Endovascular has purchased Pilgrim’s solution for document control and employee training and certification management. These key automated systems will be hosted by Pilgrim on-demand, providing Micrus with an advantage in operating efficiency. Compared to traditional software implementation models, Pilgrim On-Demand involves a lower initial investment cost, reduced overhead, a high degree of scalability, increased accessibility, improved collaborative productivity, easier implementation, and improved security with optimal performance.

In an effort to increase operational efficiencies and streamline compliance, Micrus recognized the need to replace its existing manual training management systems, with a single, enterprise-wide system that could help automate all of its training processes associated with GMP and FDA requirements. Likewise, Micrus chose to replace its previously implemented customized document management system in an effort to increase efficiencies, and to take advantage of Pilgrim’s document management solution because it integrates directly with the training system. This further reduces the cost of integration between two disparate systems that would have to be created otherwise.

“We chose to go with Pilgrim due to its robust off-the-shelf solutions and their reputation of superior customer service over the competition,” said Fritz Ender, Micrus’ Director of Quality Assurance. “Pilgrim’s training system suited our requirements very closely. Additionally, by implementing SmartDoc™ with SmartTrain™ in tandem, we eliminate the need for integration into a separate document management system.”

“I was impressed with Pilgrim on Demand, the SaaS approach, for these two solutions because of Pilgrim’s product knowledge and sound IT infrastructure management,” said Bill McCarty, IT Director for Micrus.

“Companies that adopt the SaaS strategy spend more time streamlining their operations as opposed to building and maintaining IT infrastructure and architecture to run their strategic applications,” said Prashanth Rajendran, Pilgrim’s Chief Operating Officer. “Micrus Endovascular is well poised to realize these benefits quickly, particularly when the unparalleled support that Pilgrim Software provides, enables them to get the most out of their investment in our ECQM solutions.”

With no client involvement, the 100% browser-based SmartSolve solution allows for information sharing and collaborative productivity for managing the key quality and compliance processes. Furthermore, advanced built-in security features protect customers’ intellectual property.

About Micrus Endovascular Corporation

Micrus develops, manufactures and markets implantable and disposable medical devices for use in the treatment of cerebral vascular diseases. Micrus products are used by interventional neuroradiologists, interventional neurologists and neurosurgeons to treat both cerebral aneurysms responsible for hemorrhagic stroke and intracranial atherosclerosis, which may lead to ischemic stroke. Hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke are both significant causes of death and disability worldwide. The Micrus product lines enable physicians to gain access to the brain in a minimally invasive manner through the vessels of the arterial system. Micrus' proprietary, three-dimensional microcoils automatically deploy within the aneurysm, forming a scaffold that conforms to a wide diversity of aneurysm shapes and sizes. Micrus also sells stents, balloon catheters, access devices such as guide catheters, microcatheters, guidewires and accessory products used in conjunction with its microcoils.
