CONTACT Acquires Weather Radar Specialist SELEX as New Customer

SELEX Sistemi Integrati GmbH based in Neuss, near Düsseldorf (Germany), is an internationally acclaimed manufacturer of weather radar systems. Since last year, the company has been phasing-in a new ERP system in the course of an encompassing reorganization plan. At the same time, it surveyed the market for a CAD Data & Document Management system. SELEX’ decision for CIM DATABASE followed the design department’s favorite option. Since early summer, all AutoCAD applications are now operating under CONTACT Software’s PDM platform; currently, preparations are under way to shortly activate the integration with MS Navision and EPLAN V8. Considering an enterprise-wide DMS solution, it is planned to expand the CIM DATABASE integration such that also invoices and other commercial documents as well as process-related emails can be handled by the PDM system. Furthermore, mid-range planning sees the introduction of a 3D-CAD system, also linked to CIM DATABASE.
SELEX SI GmbH can refer to over 40 years experience in the configuration, design and manufacture of highly customized weather radar systems. Alone in the last 10 years, the company was able to install over 250 of its systems in 60 countries world-wide; on a national level, it claims Germany's National Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) amongst its reputed customers. And even now, irrespective of the economic slump and financial crisis, the Orders Pending ledger is well stocked. By investing in a future-orientated, seamlessly integrated IT infrastructure based upon a virtualized server and repository, the systems manufacturer aims to escort and hedge its continued growth. “As a technology leader in the meteorological equipment environment, we regard it as highly desirable that our designers and project engineers are given optimum support in their work”, explains Berthold Kurzawiak, who, as SELEX IT manager, also answers for the PDM introduction. “With our new systems environment, we also create a platform for a consistent Product Lifecycle Management system, providing surplus benefits to other key segments within the company“.
The weather radar manufacturer, also known under its former brand name Gematronik for several years, now is integral part of the Italian SELEX Sistemi Integrati-Group, a subdivision of the multinational electronics enterprise FINMECCANICA. This enterprise, with its 56.000 employees, manufactures radar and other air-space control systems and military equipment
