The results for the last opinion poll are:

The responses to last month’s question (Which area of the business would you expect to receive the most value from PLM, but which hasn’t had PLM applied to it yet) were quite interesting. The difference between the highest and lowest answers was 8% - not a significant difference when looking at the various potential answers. However, the answer receiving the highest rating (26%) was “Enterprise Content Management.” Slightly behind the first answer was “Systems Engineering Support” with 23%. Again, not a significant difference between these top two rated areas of potential value that are not supported by PLM capabilities in the responding companies.
The third and fourth rated areas, both with approximately 18% response, were “Enterprise Simulation Management” and “Manufacturing Operations Support.” The area receiving the last place rating (16%) was “Field Configuration Management.” In all of these cases, the ratings reflected reasonable demand for PLM support for the area. In fact, PLM support for these areas is clearly available and PLM is known to provide significant benefit in each. The next question is, “what are we going to do about it?” There is clearly an opportunity to gain additional value by expanding the use of PLM into new areas of the business.
NOTE: The results of these polls are anecdotal, not scientific.
