Are you concerned about any of the following?

Getting products into the hands of customers is a complex process even for something as simple as a mousepad. When we think of product lifecycle management (PLM), thoughts revolve around product design and manufacturing, and perhaps the supply chain. Companies that produce more complex products think about requirements, software, and validation. Unless you work in the consumer-packaged goods or food & beverage industries you probably don’t think about packaging, labeling, or artwork unless you work in that discipline. But unless those product elements are complete the product is not ready to sell. Furthermore, a mistake in labeling can lead to a recall. This is a huge issue in food & beverage but can affect most products, especially those that are shipped across international borders.

A recent phenomenon is the unboxing of a brand-new product on YouTube. Quality packaging is part of the experience a manufacturer can provide to enhance the brand experience, as well as protect the product during its distribution. Beyond the individual package, retailers and distributors can have exacting specifications for carton, case, pallet arrangements, and weight to ensure their efficiency. Furthermore, getting the wrong barcode or a labeling error on packaging can force the customer to reject a shipment. If a high-volume retailer, such as Walmart, rejects your pallets, your product won’t get sold causing a material impact on finances.

This presentation will identify common issues related to packaging, labeling, and artwork, as well as describe the benefits of extending a PLM solution to incorporate and manage those critical product-related data elements. This will improve cost and shorten timelines to get products to market, as well as lower risk while doing so. It will also describe how a properly implemented PLM solution can address the issues and support the digital thread to enable a digital twin strategy thus, improving a company’s top and bottom line.
