In this session, CIMdata will lead discussions of several topics to be covered by our PLM Knowledge Councils' research agenda for 2013.- 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm | Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration in Systems Engineering
Peter Bilello, President, CIMdata
In last year’s Forum, CIMdata discussed model-based systems engineering (MBSE) as a promising approach to systems engineering. One of the biggest challenges to this approach is how disciplinary experts, each with their own modeling tools, need to collaborate to increase the efficiency of product development while considering the product requirements in their specific domain. In this session we will describe early learning about how this is being done in the field.- 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm | Democratizing Simulation to Improve Decision Making
Peter Bilello, President, CIMdata
Simulation and Analysis has been one of the fastest growing PLM segments over the last few years. Even before its rapid growth, solution providers and practitioners saw the need to make its solutions easy to use and more accessible across the product lifecycle. But if that does indeed occur, how does such a new way of working change decision making and other collaborative processes? This session will explore the dynamic in more detail. - 3:30 pm – 3:45 pm | Networking Break
- 3:45 pm – 4:15 pm | End–User Focused Research Topics
In 2013, our research agenda will also include several other topics of interest to manufacturing companies in multiple industries. These short sessions will highlight each of these areas, and seek inputs from Forum participants that will help sharpen our focus on these topics in 2013 and beyond.- 3:45 pm – 4:00 pm | “Big Data” and PLM
Stan Przybylinski, Vice President of Research, CIMdata
According to some analyst firms business intelligence (BI) is an $8 billion market that is growing over 15% per year. While BI focuses mostly on structured enterprise data, big data expands the focus to include unstructured data, a vastly larger problem. The “Internet of Things,” and other topics, will be explored in a PLM context.- 4:00 pm – 4:15 pm | Mobile Applications in PLM
Stan Przybylinski, Vice President of Research, CIMdata
Few can argue about the benefit of bringing data and process access to the work site, wherever that may be. However, today’s mobile applications only enable simple decisions, like looking at visualizations and signing off on a task. Mobile devices can offer so much more, and this session will look at leading-edge mobile capabilities. - 4:15 pm – 4:30 pm | Closing Comments
