Edward (Ed) Martin is Director, AEC & Manufacturing Convergence Consulting Practice, for CIMdata—an internationally recognized authority on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). Mr. Martin brings to CIMdata and its clients 36 years of PLM and manufacturing industry experience in the disciplines of product development, manufacturing automation, lean manufacturing, and systems engineering. In his career he has held engineering and management roles in the manufacturing industry, and while at Autodesk, a leading PLM solution provider, he worked with global manufacturing companies in the automotive, aerospace & defense, building products, fabrication, industrial equipment, and marine industries.

Mr. Martin has been intimately involved in the application, integration, and improvement of engineering and manufacturing tools and workflows starting at General Motors and then Delphi Corporation. While at Delphi, he drove the adoption of modular product strategies that resulted in significant improvements in manufacturing performance. He then applied his engineering and manufacturing knowledge at Autodesk, where he first built an automotive industry practice and then led a product team focused on production and fabrication technologies including the integration of BIM and manufacturing information for greenfield and brownfield facility projects.

Mr. Martin has held management positions in the manufacturing industry and PLM software and services industry, including responsibility for strategic planning, product management, manufacturing strategy, product and industry marketing, and strategic business development. He has driven the development of new solutions and championed the adoption of new technologies ranging from 3D laser scanning to configure/quote solutions and 3D layout.

Mr. Martin’s practice currently focuses on applying a PLM approach to bridge data flow and integrate processes between manufacturing and BIM workflows, for disciplines ranging from product engineering to facility design, component fabrication, and building operation. This practice brings together a range of disciplines and technologies, including product design, configuration and data management, simulation, bid proposal, distributed collaboration, reality capture, large scale model integration, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Mr. Martin holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Cognate in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University and an MBA from The University of Michigan.
