Do any of the following statements sound a little too familiar?
- We find it difficult to implement and leverage IT technology improvements.
- Our processes and user interfaces are out-dated.
- We are experiencing difficulties managing and leveraging legacy data.
- We are experiencing a loss of data assets.
- We have increased our investment in legacy solutions, which leads to increasing costs of upgrade.
Managing the risks associated with PLM solution and data obsolescence within A&D, and other industries, is a large and growing problem. The long lifespan of products and the large volume of complex data with complex relationships mean that the product data will need to transition through several generations of IT solutions. The resulting risks include significant expenses when PLM solutions need to be upgraded, data integrity risks when technology updates are applied and especially when technology architecture changes. To address these risks the CIMdata administered A&D PLM Action Group, an association of like-minded OEMs who have joined forces to remediate their common pain points, assigned a cross-industry team to identify the causes and potential remedies. This presentation will provide a high-level review of the obsolescence research and the requirements that the team addresses to PLM solution providers.
What will I learn by attending this webinar?
- You will have a better understanding of the negative consequences of PLM technology obsolescence – excessive cost and risk of data loss – and insights into the root causes.
- You will learn about the goals this group of A&D industry leaders has set for remediation of the consequences of obsolescence and their approach towards achieving them.
- You will gain insight into the major causes and mitigation methods available for managing obsolescence.
- You will learn about an integration strategy and architecture principles that you can adopt, and the potential business benefits of doing this.
