Siemens PLM Software, in conjunction with Siemens AG, is taking a fresh approach to solving challenges in today’s energy industry. To drive further progress, the company recently held an Energy Executive Council event in Houston, Texas, with attendance from key influencers throughout the industry, including independent oil companies (IOCs); oilfield services firms; oilfield equipment manufacturers; and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms. The energy industry has traditionally adopted highly customized engineering processes for developing projects, and has struggled to reuse design information from project to project as well as to integrate that information throughout the lifecycles of projects. Lack of information integration and reuse has resulted in higher costs due to errors and process friction, ultimately leading to longer, more expensive project cycles. Combined with problems with information handover from each successive stage in major capital projects, this sets the stage for annual efficiency penalties that an IOC will struggle to

Key takeaways: Collaboration between aerospace and defense OEMs and their design chain suppliers has been identified as a chronic pain point by the OEMs, i.e., point of friction impeding information flow through the product lifecycle. CIMdata research has revealed that, in general, A&D OEMs and their partners have no system in place to record and track collaboration inquiries. Establishing an inquiry and response tracking system between collaboration entities is a simple, low cost investment that would go a long way to alleviating this chronic pain point. Over the past two years CIMdata has participated in collaboration research together with a number of aerospace and defense (A&D) OEMs—members of the A&D PLM Action Group.[1] Admittedly the focus of the research centered on the preparation and transfer of product 3D model geometry and part manufacturing information (PMI) between collaboration partners. In this particular study those partners were the OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers. However, the

Key takeaways: Dassault Systèmes’ aspires to the role of catalyst and enabler for realizing critical structural transformations across industry value chains that will allow customers to maximize benefits and profits from economic disruptors like the current trends such as smart, connected products and digitalization. Dassault Systèmes’ is driving their 3DEXPERIENCE platform to the next level, positioning the platform as an operating system that powers their portfolio and their customers’ operating models, as well as being a business model that powers their marketplace and their customers’ value networks. Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform revenues in 2016 grew 30% over 2015, and represented 36% of Dassault Systèmes new license revenues. CIMdata recently had the pleasure to attend Dassault Systèmes annual PLM analyst event at their headquarters in Vélizy-Villacoublay, France. As in previous years, these two days were well organized with presentations and demonstrations by key Dassault Systèmes’ management team members. Dassault Systèmes’ executives updated the PLM analyst

Key takeaways: Consumer Product (CP) companies have used PDM and PLM for years to support product design and manufacturing, but functions to deliver a consumer-ready product to the distribution channel or retail shelf have historically been siloed. In consumer product companies packaging, labeling, and artwork are critical to getting a saleable product to market quickly. Most product development oriented PLM solutions do not support merchandise and line planning; therefore, category and brand managers have limited visibility of those factors. PTC’s FlexPLM, based on the Windchill platform, is a proven solution for retail and consumer products that can help get complex consumer products to market faster and at lower cost by integrating product design with retail, online, and other channel related data. Bringing any product to market quickly and profitably is an achievement, but in the case of consumer products it is especially notable due to the short timeframe and complexity of factors outside the core

Key takeaways: Like a TED conference with an Additive Manufacturing (AM) theme, speakers came from government agencies, industrial companies, academia, and tech startups, hosted by Dassault Systèmes, to deliver the current state and future vision of an end-to-end AM design to manufacturing lifecycle. Problems such as repeatability, warpage, cost, time, and lack of education all present barriers to adopting AM to make production parts. Fortunately, the solution providers, material makers, standards and academic institutes which spoke at the event are rallying to help customers make AM parts for end use. Dassault Systèmes demonstrated their 3DEXPERIENCE suite of connected AM applications: BIOVIA, CATIA, SIMULIA, and DELMIA which illustrated what’s available today to help customers design and make AM parts. Customers can choose whether to adopt incrementally, as point solutions, or holistically to provide an end-to-end platform for designing, simulating, and making AM production ready parts. Dassault Systèmes’ Additive Manufacturing Symposium, held May 15th,2017 at The

Key takeaways: Dassault Systèmes, continues to follow through on implementing its vision to enable sustainable innovation through the use of its 3DEXPERIENCE® platform, supported by the BIOVIA, GEOVIA, and SIMULIA brands. SIMULIA continues to improve its Additive Manufacturing simulation and process capabilities to take advantage of the latest advances in material sciences and manufacturing. Industry’s next big challenge is to enable the cultural change required to make better use of already available simulation and prediction technology. The second Dassault Systèmes' Science in the Age of Experience conference brought users from various industries and academia from around the world together in the Midwest digital manufacturing capital of Chicago. In addition to Dassault Systèmes’ brands BIOVIA and SIMULIA a third brand, GEOVIA, participated in this year’s event. The GEOVIA brand, formerly Gemcom Software before its acquisition by Dassault Systèmes in 2012, with its current focus on mining, has the general objective to model and simulate our
