CIMdata was saddened to learn about the untimely passing of a true visionary, Chuck Grindstaff, the former CEO of Siemens PLM Software. Mr. Grindstaff retired from Siemens in 2016 to pursue a passion for winemaking at his Next Step Vineyards, LLC but he left his mark on the industry with his leadership of Siemens PLM Software and its precursors. Mr. Grindstaff began his association with UGS in 1978, when he joined the Unigraphics Solutions research and development team, holding various leadership positions. Mr. Grindstaff left Unigraphics in 1988 and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Waveframe, where he developed and manufactured digital signal processing systems for high-end motion picture applications that revolutionized the application of digital processes for film-making. He was recently awarded a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Motion Picture Academy of the Arts and Sciences for this ground-breaking work and its long-term impact on the industry—a

Are You 3DEXPERIENCEd? (Commentary)

PDF Key takeaways: Dassault Systèmes continues to drive its vision for ENOVIA forward by extending lifecycle support to business planning and after-sales while enriching it with expanded connectivity for lifecycle functions. Digital assets are becoming more valuable than physical assets and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is designed to support this concept in multiple ways—as a business platform, as an operating system, and as an enabler of new business models. The enhancements to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and ENOVIA with 2019X should be appealing to SmarTeam and SOLIDWORKS users, giving them the capabilities they need to advance their PLM maturity. POWER’BY offers PLM collaboration services that will help clients with multiple ECAD and MCAD authoring tools (including non-Dassault Systèmes tools) manage data using ENOVIA to improve configuration control and better distribute information to the enterprise. CIMdata attended a “3DEXPERIENCE ENOVIA Day” event on 28 September 2018. This analysts-only event provided updates on key aspects of ENOVIA’s positioning, business, and

PDF Key takeaways: Siemens PLM Software (Siemens) has a deep understanding of the verification and validation challenges faced by the automotive industry related to safety certification of autonomous vehicles. Siemens offers numerous solutions for simulating accident scenarios, active safety sensors, sensor-fusion, systems-of-systems, system-on-chip, functional safety, vehicle dynamics, and robust control. Simulation offerings by Siemens accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles (AVs) by: i) generating a large set of realistic accident scenarios, ii) reliably simulating the response of complex systems, and iii) optimizing system-performance while minimizing energy consumption. Simulation offerings by Siemens are not only helping manufacturers develop safe and certifiable AVs, they also are versatile for developing innovative vehicle architectures and interior concepts that could help develop new autonomous mobility experiences. The Vision of Autonomous Vehicles and the Certification Challenge The capability of integrating advanced sensors in automobiles, along with the computational power that can enable real-time artificial intelligence, is driving the development of autonomous road vehicles.

PDF Key takeaways: Infor, a leading enterprise software company, has seen dramatic growth with their CloudSuite strategy, delivering cloud-native multi-tenant applications using Amazon Web Services. They are rethinking enterprise processes and applications and deploying new Infor Go capabilities that deliver mobile and cloud apps that work in concert to support anytime, anywhere access to Infor offerings. Their work in analytics with their Birst acquisition and their Coleman initiative are bringing augmented intelligence to the point of work. On September 24-27, 2018, Infor, a leading enterprise software firm, held Inforum 2018, their annual customer event, in Washington, DC. Infor is a company of many brands that, under the leadership of CEO Charles Phillips, is making the pivot to the cloud by offering CloudSuites, industry-focused bundles of Infor solutions built around an Infor enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution focused on that industry. The private company does publish financials, but their software as a service (SaaS) growth is

PDF Key takeaways: Autodesk continues to build out their product innovation platform vision to enable an integrated “Design-Make-Use” lifecycle view. Their Autodesk Fusion Lifecycle solution is empowering a range of industrial companies to improve their products and processes, including more support for engineering work-in-process. Autodesk is expanding the use of generative design technology to other manufacturing processes and other domains, like AEC. CIMdata had the pleasure to attend the 5th annual Autodesk Accelerate event in Toronto, Canada in September. As in past events, the crowd of approximately 275 was a good mix of Autodesk Fusion Lifecycle customers, prospects, partners, and Autodesk staff. The event was held at the MaRS Innovation, the center of an innovation hub originally focused on “Medical and Related Sciences” that is adjacent to the University of Toronto and its affiliated research hospitals at the University Health Network. Mr. Stephen Hooper, Vice President and General Manager for all Autodesk Fusion products, opened the

PDF Aras, a leader in the enterprise product lifecycle management (PLM) software market, recently announced[1] its core tenets for managing simulation data in anticipation of exponential growth in demand for simulation at all stages of the product lifecycle. The company projects a growing wave of simulation and analysis driven by increasing product complexity, competitive pressures to reduce time to market, and enabling technologies such as IoT and Digital Twin. As part of this simulation and analysis strategic initiative, Aras has also just announced the acquisition of Comet Solutions Inc., a provider of software for simulation tool integration and process automation. Using Comet’s technology, manufacturers are able to create SimApps that automate a wide range of heterogenous tool design simulation processes to increase the efficiency of dedicated simulation analysts as well as to provide more widespread use of simulation results by design, manufacturing, and application engineers. The integration of Comet’s capabilities in the

PDF Key takeaways: SAP’s vision for the Intelligent Enterprise is expansive, spanning their traditional portfolio and SAP Leonardo, all powered by their digital platform, SAP S/4HANA. SAP has made great strides in their intelligent product development (IPD) offering, combining organic development with key partnerships, like with ANSYS on predictive engineering, to support their vision for networks of digital twins across the lifecycle. Their support for systems engineering, advanced variant configuration management, mechanical design, and electrical design continues to improve, with managing software assets coming soon. SAP’s cloud-first development strategy for SAP S/4HANA positions SAP and their customers to take advantage of the on-going cloud adoption wave. CIMdata recently attended the SAP Analyst Event in Chicago, IL, held in conjunction with the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) at McCormick Place. IMTS is a gargantuan show, with over 129,000 registrants viewing 2,123 booths from 2,563 exhibiting companies.[1] From PLM solution firms to giant machine tools, this show has
