Dr. Thomas Hedberg, Jr., P.E., Mission Director for the Acquisition and Industrial Security mission area at the University of Maryland Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security

Dr. Thomas Hedberg is the Mission Director for the Acquisition and Industrial Security mission area at the University of Maryland Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security. Dr. Hedberg conducts research in the areas of product design, manufacturing, and lifecycle engineering using information modeling, knowledge engineering, and system integration. Dr. Hedberg joined ARLIS from the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). At NIST, Dr. Hedberg was the Program Manager of the Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) program and the Co-Leader of the Smart Manufacturing Systems Test Bed, which earned him the Department of Commerce Gold Medal in 2019. Dr. Hedberg has a strong interest in the areas of model-based enterprise, smart manufacturing, product lifecycle management (PLM), data/information flows across supply chains, and long-term data archival and retrieval (LOTAR). Dr. Hedberg is the Chair of the ASME MBE Standards Committee, a voting member of the ASME Y14.37, Y14.41, and 14.47 standard committees, and a past member of ISO TC184/SC4/WGs 11, 12, 15, 21 and the ISO TC184/SC4 Quality Committee. Dr. Hedberg earned a B.S. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University, an M.Eng. in Engineering Management with a concentration on Systems Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Hedberg is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the States of Arizona and Maryland.
