Daniel Hettema, Director of Digital Engineering, Modeling, and Simulation, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering

Daniel Hettema is the Director of Digital Engineering, Modeling, and Simulation within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In his role, he oversees DoD-wide strategy & policy and promotes best practices for advancing digital tools and techniques across the lifecycle.

Under his leadership, participation has doubled in the Community of Practice, visits to the Digital Engineering Body of Knowledge (DEBoK) have increased 30-fold, and the first-of-its-kind DoD and Government Agency interactive collaboration event has been established.

Daniel brings extensive experience in both industry and government. In addition to the DoD, Daniel has supported both the DOE and IC.

He has held leadership roles in multiple professional organizations, holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering from George Mason University, a M.S. in Space Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, is an INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional, and is a level four SysML modeler.
