Niels König is the head and chief engineer of the department of Production Metrology at Fraunhofer IPT since 2013. He received a Diploma on Physics from RWTH Aachen University, majoring in solid state physics and biochemical engineering.
After joining IPT in 2007 as a research scientist and contributing to several research projects in the field of fiber optic sensors, he took over the Fiber Optics group in 2010. Niels has authored more than 50 papers in the field of production metrology including 13 peer-reviewed papers. He is a lecturer for “Optical metrology and Imaging” at RWTH Aachen University. Niels is a member of the 5G-ACIA, while coordinating the 5G activities at Fraunhofer IPT since 2017. Since 2019, he has been coordinating the 5G-Industry Campus Europe, a large-scale infrastructure for 5G in production.
