Magma's Blast Create Version 4.2 Integrates Datapath Synthesis, Design for Test and Powerful Timing Visualization with RTL Synthesis

MagmaŽ Design Automation Inc. announced significant enhancements to its Blast CreateT RTL-to-placed gates solution. Blast Create Version 4.2 integrates datapath synthesis and design for test (DFT) into a single executable. Leveraging Magma's unified data model, Blast Create is now the only synthesis solution that can provide timing path visualizations to speed timing analysis and constraint creation. These key enhancements combined with Magma's patented gain-based synthesis methodology allow designers to significantly reduce overall logic design, timing analysis and test development time.

"Blast Create's adoption rate is growing fast-just in the last two quarters our customers have taped out over 20 designs," said Yatin Trivedi, director of product marketing for Magma. "In many instances, customers were using Blast Create in parallel with traditional synthesis flows. On average, Blast Create was proven to deliver a 10 percent area reduction while meeting or exceeding performance and power requirements. As a result, these customers taped out the designs using the Blast Create-generated netlist. With its enhanced capabilities, plus the higher capacity and 3 times faster runtime, Blast Create 4.2 has enabled users to generate 2 million placed gates in under five hours."

Blast Create eliminates the need for third-party datapath synthesis and DFT tools. By integrating datapath synthesis, Blast Create provides key capabilities for datapath-intensive designs such as DSP, CPU and graphics, including register pipelining and retiming to improve timing closure. To ensure that logic is functional as well as testable, Blast Create performs DFT analysis in conjunction with synthesis, and as a result delivers higher quality and faster turnaround time. Top-down and bottom-up scan insertion capabilities support various DFT methodologies, including those with intellectual property (IP) that have pre-inserted scan. Blast Create performs more than 60 RTL DFT checks early in the design phase to assess the effect of testability on timing, area and power, preventing designers from wasting valuable synthesis and optimization time on poorly coded RTL.

Because Blast Create is based on Magma's unified data model, it has access to and can display a wide range of logical and physical design data. With the integration of this visualization capability, Blast Create is the only synthesis solution that can enable cross probing of RTL, schematics, floorplan, placement and layout from timing data. This visualization allows users to quickly identify long paths, false paths and multi-cycle paths in the design, and accelerates the process of pinpointing what changes need to be made to the RTL and timing constraints, making it easier to analyze and correct timing problems early in the flow to avoid iterations.

Blast Create 4.2 can be previewed at the Design Automation Conference in San Diego, June 7-11. Register online for a demo at DAC at http://www.magma-da.com/dac Magma's Blast Create 4.2 will be in production release June 2004 with pricing remaining at $325,000/year for a three-year license.
