Alibre Design Powers University of California, San Diego Formula SAEŽ Team
Alibre Inc. announced that they are actively supporting the University of California, San Diego Formula SAEŽ team by providing free access to Alibre Design 3D CAD software. Alibre has expanded this software grant to all FSAE teams in future competitions. 140 teams are registered for the 2004 event to be held in Pontiac, Michigan May 19-23, 2004.
Schools from around the world "strut their stuff" and manufacturers come to see new cutting-edge designs. Student teams are required to design, fabricate and compete with small formula-style race cars. The vehicles are judged in two different categories: static inspection based on engineering design, and dynamic solo performance trials followed by a high-performance 22 kilometer endurance run.
UCSD has sent two teams to the FSAE competition since inception in 1997. After a three-year hiatus, the team has rebuilt itself into one of the largest active engineering organizations on campus in less than a year. The team's web site can be viewed at http://sae.ucsd.edu/
"Alibre Design has definitely helped our team build a better vehicle," said Micah Bayless, UCSD SAE President. "The software's powerful real-time peer-to-peer collaborative ability proved essential for us. Alibre Design is easy enough for incoming members to learn in a pinch. Alibre as a company has also been very supportive of our Formula team and has helped us every step of the way."
