DP Technology Demonstrates Advanced CAD to CAM Feature Exchange Technology

CAM industry leader DP Technology ( http://www.dptechnology.com ), maker of ESPRIT software, demonstrated the capability of ESPRIT to read CAD features and their properties directly from native SolidWorks part models. This data exchange enhancement will allow ESPRIT programmers to bring feature properties and attributes across to the CAM program without data translation or data loss.

ESPRIT's new data exchange technology will import SolidWorks CAD features that can be directly mapped directly to CAM features, enabling more precise automatic definitions of parts, including feature name, type, description, and category. ESPRIT's Process Manager will work from a more complete and accurate part description in selecting the most appropriate machining process for any given part.

Superior part integrity is currently achieved in ESPRIT by machining the part directly from the original SolidWorks solid model. The Parasolid solid modeling kernel is used in both the SolidWorks CAD system to design the part and by the ESPRIT CAM system in generating the associated CNC program. Since all machining is performed directly on the solid model, programmers are assured the "as machined" part will match the original "as designed" version.

ESPRIT's feature exchange technology will enable clearer CAD to CAM communication - streamlining the CNC programming process, and greater programming automation - eliminating the time required for input and verification of data associated with part features.
