SolidWorks Selects Symmetry Solutions as the Exclusive Educational Reseller for Minnesota

SolidWorks Corporation has selected Symmetry Solutions Incorporated the exclusive SolidWorks Education Reseller for the state of Minnesota. Symmetry Solutions, a SolidWorks Focused Value-Added Reseller, has long supported SolidWorks educational institutions and instructors by providing training, professional services, and technical support.

SolidWorks is already established as the favored 3D design software at the post-secondary level in Minnesota. It is taught at the University of St. Thomas, the University of Minnesota, and a host of technical and community colleges throughout the state. However, only a relatively few forward-looking high schools, such as Plainview and Benilde-St. Margarets, have incorporated SolidWorks software into their curriculums. Working together, SolidWorks Corporation and Symmetry Solutions are committed to helping Minnesota youth become more competitive by expanding the availability and utilization of SolidWorks Education Edition software in K-12 schools.

The SolidWorks Education Edition provides students with a full suite of design and engineering analysis software that enables them to design, build and test better robots that win. Working in 3D the young engineers can visualize their designs and collaborate more effectively with teammates to explore various design alternatives. Using the included stress and motion analysis software they can identify and correct structural weaknesses and simulate mechanisms so they know their robots will work before they are built.

SolidWorks Corporation realizes that schools are facing budget cutbacks and funds are limited for even the best instructional tools, so the SolidWorks Education Edition includes software with a commercial value of over $20,000 for less than the cost of some textbooks. SolidWorks Corporation is also a long-term sponsor of the FIRST Robotics Competition. The company granted SolidWorks Education Edition licenses of software to more than 50 qualified teams for the 2003-2004 season and has provided software grants to more than 250 high schools over the past five years.

Accomplished inventor Dean Kamen founded FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in 1989 to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people, their schools, and their communities. Based in Manchester, N.H., FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology, and engineering. With the support of many of the world's most well-known companies, the non-profit organization hosts the FIRST Robotics Competition for high school students and the FIRST LEGO League for children 9-14 years old.
