UGS Presents Beiqi Foton Motor with First Annual Asia Pacific PLM Excellence Award at Executive Client Event
UGS ( http://www.ugs.com ) announced the company has presented Beiqi Foton Motor (Foton) with its first annual Asia Pacific (AP) PLM Excellence award. UGS also recognized several other customers in a ceremony at the company's Asia Pacific Executive Client Event (APECE) in Qingdao, China on June 11 -13.
The AP PLM Excellence award recognizes UGS customers in Asia that have achieved exceptional business success through the use of UGS' PLM software and services. UGS selected Foton, a manufacturer of vehicles ranging from light buses and SUVs to large coaches, as the winner of the award from a field of nine final candidates.
The panel of judges, from both inside and outside of UGS, based its selection on several criteria including business challenge, solutions profile, PLM benefit to the company and vision.
"We are very proud of our PLM implementation and pleased to accept this award," said Mr. Guotao Yang, CIO of Foton. "Our PLM strategy is fundamental to our business goal of meeting the diverse needs of our clients. It is based on people, process and technology and has led to tangible benefits for our company including a 50 percent increase of our efficiency in implementing engineering changes."
"Foton's focus on tangible business benefits and its realization that PLM is more than just a software application are critical success factors in the company's implementation," said Dr. Michael Grieves, co-director of the University of Michigan's PLM Development Consortium and one of the award judges.
Along with Foton, LG Electronics (LGE) Telecommunication Equipment & Handset Company, Xi'an Aero-Engine Controls and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) were also recognized at APECE for their excellent PLM implementations. All four companies presented their case studies and will be given the opportunity to present again at PLM World 2005, the annual PLM industry users group conference attended by more than 1,500 people from around the world.
"The high quality of the Excellence Award submissions illustrates the fact that Asia Pacific clients are achieving definite business success with PLM," commented Prof. Xueyu Ruan from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a PLM Excellence Award judge.
Mr. Kentaro Kizaki, editor-in-chief of Nikkei Monozukuri Magazine, Japan's prominent trade publication, focused on introducing and featuring the latest technologies and solutions that support manufacturing of innovative products, also contributed to the winner selection as a judge member.
APECE was co-hosted by Tony Affuso, UGS chairman, CEO and president, and Hans-Kurt Lübberstedt, UGS executive vice president for AP. The event brought together more than 100 of AP's elite customers to explore the potential of PLM.
