CIMdata in the News:   Exchanging Product Design Data

The penalties associated with design data exchange can be extreme. As indicated in research by S. Brunnermeir and S. Martin in their publication, Interoperability Cost Analysis of the U.S. Automotive Supply Chain, ". imperfect interoperability imposes at least $1 billion per year on the members of the U.S. automotive supply chain. By far, the greatest component of these costs is the resources devoted to repairing or reentering data files that are not usable for downstream applications. This estimate is conservative because we could not quantify all sources of interoperability costs."

While the cost to the U.S. automotive sector is high, the overall cost associated with moving design data for all industries worldwide must be staggering by comparison." To learn more, please visit Exchanging Product Design Data , (Proficiency Website, April 2004), By John Mackrell)
