PTC Announces Winner of Annual Design Competition

PTC announced the overall winner of the twelfth annual PTC Design Awards Competition as well as the winners of its annual Alliance Partner Awards at the 2004 PTC/USER World Event in Nashville, Tennessee.

John Deere received the Design Award for Best Overall entry for its design of the John Deere 3235C Lightweight Fairway Mower using PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/INTRALINK solutions. John Deere was chosen from more than 350 entries submitted from dozens of countries. For the Partner Awards, Global Alliance partner Hewlett Packard was recognized as the exemplar for promoting value in the product lifecycle management market place from among almost 75 Global Alliance partners. Software partner Blue Ridge Numerics was selected for providing innovative and high quality products and for its support of the PTC customer base.

The PTC Design Awards Competition is an international forum for PTC customers to display successful product design achievements using PTC solutions. Awards are given in each of seven industry categories: consumer, education-(K-12), education-(college and university), high tech, heavy equipment, life sciences and transportation.

"The accuracy and speed gained by using PTC's design software enabled John Deere's engineers to significantly reduce the completion time for our first, second, and production builds," said Tom Bartlett, design engineer, John Deere. "Without Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/INTRALINK we would not have been able to meet our design schedule and beat our cost goals. This valuable software not only enhances the design phase of our product program, but also positively affects future manufacturing, marketing and customer support departments."

An expert panel of judges including individuals from several major engineering publications participated in the judging for the PTC Design Awards Competition. Finalists in the competition were also judged by participants at the PTC/USER World Event and online. Decisions were based on the entries' comprehensive use of PTC solutions, creativity, and technical merit. Submissions were also evaluated on the benefits each design or design process has provided to the entrant's company. Individual winners were selected in each industry category.

Individual category winners for the PTC Awards Competition 2004 included:

•  Consumer: SQUARE 1 PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT-Sprung "Hat-Trick" In-line Skate

The Partner Advantage program delivers a full suite of world-class software, technology and services from over 200 partner companies that extends PTC's Product Development System.

"PTC's Product Development System is complemented by a broad range of offerings delivered through a large network of software, technology and service providers," said Iain Michel, vice president, business development and partner programs, PTC. "By partnering with leaders in their respective fields, we provide the entire spectrum of capabilities our customers need to succeed. Over the past year, Blue Ridge Numerics has exemplified this dedication to our joint customers by providing CFdesign®, an innovative, fully integrated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) application designed for the Pro/ENGINEER user community."

Partners were judged on a variety of measurements, including commitment to the PLM industry, the strength of their technology roadmap, response to the market demands in platform and software requirements, the quality of their day-to-day operations support and executive level support, and support of PTC Go-To-Market programs.
