Siemens Automation and Drives Accelerates Time to Market with Agile PLM
Agile Software Corporation announced its expanded presence at Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D), with the adoption of Agile Product Portfolio Management. Headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany, Siemens A&D, is a worldwide leader in the field of automation and drive systems for the manufacturing and process industry. Siemens A&D has standardized on Agile PLM to manage product record information, including design revisions and product history. In addition, Siemens A&D recently added Agile Product Portfolio Management in order to manage projects across different business divisions in order to leverage cross selling opportunities and accelerate their innovation process and time to market.
Siemens A&D recently upgraded to Agile e5.1, a solution that was developed specifically for the unique needs of manufacturers in complex engineering industries including aerospace and defense, automotive and industrial products. With the Agile solution, over 4,500 users at Siemens A&D have access to project data-more than 6 million documents, items and objects-across global locations via the Web. The Agile solution is integrated with Siemens A&D's existing enterprise systems and applications, including SAP. Siemens A&D expanded its use of Agile solutions with the adoption of Agile Product Portfolio Management, which gives Siemens A&D managers the ability to optimize resource allocation, view the progress of individual projects and access project data. The Agile solutions allow Siemens A&D to communicate and share information more easily across their various disparate global locations, resulting in improved time-to-market.
"With Agile e5.1 we have successfully integrated and connected over 4,500 users located throughout ten business units, and are now able to access project and product information within a single system," said Wolfgang Kartmann, program manager, PLM 1 Division, Siemens A&D. "Moving forward, with Agile Product Portfolio Management, we will have decision support capability, and will be able to optimally leverage our resources across multiple projects and locations."
"We are pleased that Siemens A&D-an industry leader-has upgraded to Agile e5.1, and has adopted Agile Product Portfolio Management," said Jay Fulcher, Agile president and chief operating officer. "We are pleased with the success that Siemens has already had with Agile, and look forward to continuing that success with Siemens as they expand their use of Agile solutions across their global organization."
Products supplied by the Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D) include standard products for the manufacturing and process industries and for the electrical installation industry as well as system solutions, for example for machine tools, and solutions for whole industries such as the automation of entire automobile factories or chemical plants. Supplementing this range of products and services, A&D also offers software for linking production and management (horizontal and vertical IT integration) and for optimizing production processes. A&D employs 50,400 people worldwide and in fiscal year 2003 (to September 30) earned a group profit of euro 806 million on sales of euro 8.4 billion and orders of euro 8.5 billion.
Alcatel, Boeing, Dell Inc., Flextronics International, Hitachi, Leapfrog, Lockheed Martin, Magna Steyr, Siemens, QUALCOMM and ZF are among the nearly 1200 customers in the automotive, aerospace and defense, consumer products, electronics, high tech, industrial products, and life sciences industries that use Agile solutions.
