Synopsys Provides Galaxy and Discovery Platforms to Korean Government

Synopsys, Inc. ( http://www.synopsys.com ) announced that it will provide the IT System-on-Chip (IT-SoC) Promotion Group of the Korea IT Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA) with a full complement of Synopsys' design solutions, as well as extensive training and support services. KIPA is a non-profit, semi-government agency established to develop and promote the Korean IT industry in the global marketplace. The IT-SoC Promotion Group, which is dedicated to promoting the growth of start-up software companies, will license a broad range of electronic design automation (EDA) technology from Synopsys' industry-leading GalaxyT Design and DiscoveryT Verification Platforms and DesignWare® Library intellectual property (IP).

"In order for Korea to succeed as a leader in SoC design, we need to establish close relationships with EDA leaders like Synopsys," said Jin-Hyeung Kong, chief of the IT-SoC Promotion Group. "By bringing world-class Synopsys technology and expertise to the IT-SoC Promotion Group, we can begin to realize our vision of becoming one of the three largest IT SoC countries of the world."

Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) established KIPA in 1998 to promote and nurture Korea's technology industry. To encourage participation in the IT SoC industry and ensure balanced growth, the IT-SoC Promotion Group provides small IT SoC companies with technology development infrastructure, start-up and incubation support, and SoC development resources such as workstations, EDA tools, IP, test and measurement equipment, marketing and consulting services. To support these efforts and encourage technology growth, Synopsys recently began tool licensing and training at the KIPA facility in Seoul.

In addition to offering its EDA tools and platforms, Synopsys and the IT-SoC Promotion Group will collaborate to offer IT SoC architects on-the-job training and customized education. Synopsys training programs will be held in the IT-SOC Promotion Group's EDA/IP technology education center at KIPA. At the center, incubator company designers will learn hands-on from Synopsys professionals how to design advanced SoCs using Synopsys' industry-leading EDA tools and IP.

"Synopsys continues to support innovation in Korea to encourage the country to become a leader in sophisticated SoC design," said Dr. Howard Ko, Asia Pacific vice president for Synopsys. "Our complete RTL to silicon solutions, along with our expertise in complex silicon design, will allow us to give Korean engineers the tools and techniques they need to design the next generation of high-performance SoCs."
