Mathsoft Partners With Documentum to Deliver 'Industrial Strength' Calculation Management
Mathsoft announced it will join forces with Documentum( http://www.documentum.com ) to enable new, "industrial strength" calculation management capabilities that combine engineering information generated in Mathcad® software with business processes automated by the Documentum Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform.
Mathsoft ( http://www.mathsoft.com ) is joining the Documentum Technology Partner Program and integrating its Mathcad calculation management software with the Documentum ECM platform. Customers will now be able to streamline their engineering operations by using Documentum to store, search, retrieve and reuse Mathcad-generated calculations and results. They will be able to integrate calculations and results into Documentum-powered workflows and business processes, including auditing trails, engineering change orders (ECOs), ISO 9000 quality certification procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance efforts, Six Sigma quality assurance processes, and many others. Mathsoft is the only mathematical software vendor that is focused on delivering these capabilities.
"The combination of Documentum's enterprise content management capabilities and Mathcad's powerful calculation management capabilities will enable organizations to more powerfully, safely and cost-effectively manage and leverage critical information in engineering enterprises," said Rob Tarkoff, executive vice president and chief strategy officer for the Documentum division of EMC Corporation. "The result is streamlined engineering processes and a more fertile environment for innovation."
The integration will specifically enable the Documentum ECM platform to read and process Mathcad calculation worksheets using XML. As a result, the combined system will treat the documents as structured chunks of meaningful content-calculations, graphics, methods, assumptions, data and results-instead of flat files that lack meaning to other systems. Consequently, organizations will be able to search worksheets by their content rather than just their names and more precisely reuse the information. The XML architecture also enables swift integration of Mathcad content into new business processes without requiring extensive application reprogramming.
"Mathsoft and Documentum are fortunate to share a large number of prominent engineering organizations as customers," said Mathsoft President and CEO Chris Randles. "These organizations understand the value of enterprise content management and the value of calculation management. In this partnership, we're integrating these two practices and giving customers new, powerful ways to create, manage and harness their valuable engineering information, launch entirely new business processes, and dramatically improve their business performance."
The integration will be part of a Mathsoft service engagement. Implementations will start at $10,000.
