Hyundai Heavy Industries Switchgear Operations Selects UGS as its PLM System Provider

UGS ( http://www.ugs.com ) announced that Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Electro Electric Systems Division has selected UGS' NXT and Teamcenter® software and services for its Switchgear Department's next generation PLM system.

HHI's Switchgear Department has been using a 2D computer aided design (CAD) system for many years. In order to increase productivity and quality in the design and manufacturing phases, the department decided to implement a more advanced PLM system to enable cross functional real time collaboration, resulting in reduced cycle time and a reduction in rework. The advanced system will allow its existing knowledge base to be reused in a multi-CAD environment.

Using NX's knowledge-based digital product development environment, HHI's Switchgear Department expects to optimize its production process. Using Teamcenter's collaborative environment, it expects to manage dispersed product information in a controlled repository and transform it into meaningful product knowledge. Teamcenter will provide the common framework for viewing data throughout the department.

"UGS' proven history was a factor in the selection process and we trust that the implementation of NX and Teamcenter portfolios along with services to be provided will help strengthen our strategic focus on customer satisfaction," said Su-Young Hwang, senior manager of IT Systems and Deployment of the Switchgear Department, Hyundai Heavy Industries. "An advanced PLM system is essential to improve a company's competitiveness and productivity, ability to compete globally, time-to-market and customer satisfaction. We are committed to providing quality products in a timely manner and retaining our leadership in a rapidly changing global market."

"Hyundai Heavy Industries is committed to quality and leadership. Their selection of UGS further validates our vision of PLM as an enabler for business transformation," said Hans-Kurt Lübberstedt, executive vice president, Asia Pacific, UGS. "We trust we will be creating another major success story in this business and in this region."
