Mentor Graphics DMS2004 Enterprise Library Management Delivers Design Productivity and Reduced Product Costs
Mentor Graphics Corporation ( http://www.mentor.com ) announced advances in ECAD library management with its DMS2004 release. Scalable versions of DMS2004 deliver significant reductions in design time and product costs to mid-sized and large enterprise original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and electronic manufacturing suppliers (EMS). DMS2004 introduces the concept of a "production" library that enables the filtering and distribution of components and library data from master repositories that are specific to the project as well as the manufacturing process thus streamlining the parts selection process and reducing manufacturing costs.
DMS solves problems posed to both the OEM and the EMS. Presently, libraries often contain too much data for typical projects and designers. The production library narrows down the component selection from the large corporate library to a project library subset greatly enhancing the engineer's productivity and design quality. Designers see and choose from only those parts that are appropriate to their specific project. The OEM and EMS can highlight parts that are readily available or less expensive, thus reducing the cost of the final product and assuring on-time manufacturing.
"Within the first five months of deployment, DMS provided standard functionality to Siemens Medical," said Mr. Reiner Jung, vice president at Siemens Medical and Director of Medical Electronics. "We initially obtained a reduction of operating cost of about 37 percent compared to the proprietary system. The full functionality, which we began using in February 2004, will provide additional process-relevant savings potential."
"With DMS2004, our customers can now manage their ECAD library data in a fashion that is consistent with their business processes and corporate structures," said Joe Dalton, director of marketing, System Design Division, Mentor Graphics. "DMS2004 eliminates time-consuming tasks to manage and transfer libraries and designs between engineering sites by introducing production based libraries and one central master repository."
DMS is a scalable library and data management product that is targeted for the electronic design process. It integrates library data with key component data required for business oriented design and part selection. It also includes the management of bill-of-materials (BOM) during the design phase to allow early visibility for the product lifecycle management (PLM) system. The scalability and modularity of DMS2004 allows for effective solutions for small design teams up to large enterprise installations as well as supporting satellite installations serving the EMS.
