UGS Introduces NX Managed Development Environment

UGS ( http://www.ugs.com ) announced NX Managed Development Environment. Among the new capabilities and enhancements that will be available in the upcoming release of NX 3, NX Managed Development Environment leverages the combined strengths of NX and Teamcenter® to provide an enhanced foundation for digital product development.

NX Managed Development Environment manages a much broader spectrum of data than ever before, including: CAD; drawings; documents and spread sheets; simulation scenarios; test data and results; NC data and associated tooling information; embedded knowledge and validation solutions. Companies can easily scale to engineering process management by streamlining critical processes and workflows with fully integrated, synchronized management of all product data and process knowledge. As a result they can eliminate waste and significantly improve product quality - critical components of lean design and design for Six Sigma initiatives.

"NX Management Development Environment will be game changing," said Chuck Grindstaff, executive vice president, PLM Products UGS. "And, NX Managed Development Environment is the first of a number of new capabilities and enhancements that when fully released in NX 3 will provide our global customers a complete digital product development solution."

UGS has been offering design management solutions for many years. Over the past several years, the company has made substantial investments to deliver complete digital product development solutions through a much tighter integration between NX, the company's next-generation digital product development solution, and Teamcenter.

NX Managed Development Environment Features

•  Extensive ability to manage all product data, providing the power to synchronize multi-site, internal and external product design teams; manage all relevant product data; manage workflow processes such as change management; integrate suppliers; share data with other business systems and teams; substantially increase re-use of existing data.

•  Collaborative environment for more rapid evaluation of significantly more "what-if" alternatives; ability to compare test results of various scenarios to achieve optimal solutions. Captures best practices and engineering processes, regulatory compliance standards and functional requirements for repeated use.

•  Ability to progress from design management to engineering process management while preserving NX data.

NX Managed Development Environment Benefits - eliminating waste; improving product quality

•  Supports dramatic reductions in searching for information, allowing engineers more time to focus on engineering tasks. Helps reduce costs; eliminate waste.

•  Provides ability to communicate and analyze design changes; improves cycle time, reduces errors and costs and improves overall product quality.

•  Helps reduce product complexity, enabling manufacturers to response more quickly to new market opportunities with better products.

"One of the things that sets NX Managed Development Environment apart from other industry solutions is its ease of use," continued Grindstaff. "The system transparently manages processes and workflows in context, working behind the scenes to facilitate collaboration and manage the data whatever its source. NX Managed Development Environment will enable customers to easily integrate islands of product information into a single unified and managed product information repository."

NX Managed Development Environment will be available with the release of UGS NX 3 in the third quarter of 2004.
