UGS Re-brands Industry-leading Software Grant Program as GO PLM; Commercial Value of Program Grants in 2003 Exceeded US$2 Billion
UGS announced the re-branding of its ongoing software grant program as the Global Opportunities in Product Lifecycle Management, or GO PLM, initiative. Through its GO PLM initiative, through which the company granted more than US$2 billion in commercial value of its PLM software in 2003, UGS provides new learning and advancement opportunities for individuals, institutions and communities globally through the adoption of PLM technology.
Separately, UGS also today announced a US$119 million in-kind software grant to Global University. (Please see Global University Grant release.)
UGS' GO PLM initiative, previously known as the Global Strategic Partnership program, brings together four complementary UGS community involvement programs:
Academic Partnership
The UGS Academic Partnership program is the most comprehensive of its kind, providing PLM technology to 800,000 students yearly at 7,752 global institutions. UGS is unique in the PLM and computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE industries, offering software grants to schools that can be used at every academic level - from middle schools to graduate engineering research programs. UGS leads the industry in the commercial value of its in-kind academic grants and provides a complete range of applications from its product portfolio-including NXT, Teamcenter®, Solid Edge®, E-factoryT and PLM Components - for student use.
Regional Productivity
UGS' Regional Productivity Program creates manufacturing technology environments where communities worldwide can work to improve their economic conditions. Under this program, for example, UGS recently provided a PLM software grant valued at US$4.2 million to Makerere University in Uganda to help that country's efforts to strengthen engineering programs at its universities and elevate its technology base. GO PLM academic partners Prairie View A&M University, Texas Southern University and Tuskegee University are complementing this effort by providing on-site PLM training for Makerere University faculty. The program, which is part of a larger initiative to improve technology access in western Africa, creates expanded career opportunities for Makerere graduates, as well as a means for Ugandan manufacturing companies to increase their global stature.
Youth Development
GO PLM Youth Development Programs develop advanced manufacturing career opportunities for at-risk and underutilized youth and displaced workers. For example, GO PLM supports the Detroit Area Pre-college Engineering Program (DAPCEP) with software and instruction to support the organization's mission to increase the number of historically under-represented minority students (African American, Hispanic, Native American) who are motivated and prepared academically to pursue careers in engineering-, science- and mathematics-related fields.
PACE
The PACE Partnership (Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education) links GM, Sun Microsystems, EDS and UGS in the support of strategically-selected academic institutions worldwide, to develop the automotive product life cycle management teams of the future. Since its founding in 1999, the PACE program has provided more than US$2 billion in software, hardware and training to 41 global institutions in the program.
