Austrian Manufacturer Selects SolidWorks Software to Streamline Tractor and Commercial Vehicle Design
Lindner Traktoren, the only family-owned business in the global tractor market, has selected SolidWorks® Office Professional 3D mechanical design software to design its tractors and commercial vehicles.
Lindner Traktoren will standardize on SolidWorks software to create 3D designs for manufacturing its flagship Geotrac and Unitrac products, the products of choice of farmers in mountainous regions of Europe. The company will also use assembly models and renderings in spare part catalogs, internal communications, client presentations, and instruction manuals. SolidWorks software will enable the company to transition smoothly from its 2D CAD system to embrace faster, more intuitive 3D CAD.
"We manufacture thousands of Geotrac series tractors and hundreds of Unitrac commercial vehicles every year," said engineer Stefan Lindner, general manager of technology at Lindner Traktoren. "That volume requires fast and simple designing capabilities. In the long run, we will use SolidWorks software to design not only the parts and components, but also the entire vehicle. We have made a long-term investment in SolidWorks and are confident we can easily expand and adapt the software as required in the future."
Until now, the company worked exclusively in 2D. It chose SolidWorks as its 3D mechanical design software over competing products. SolidWorks prevailed because of its ease of use and ability to rapidly design cast iron and sheet metal components. The software's timesaving CAD productivity, design communication, and data management tools will also help the company streamline product design. These tools include:
• SolidWorks Toolbox, a time-saving library of standard parts that uses SolidWorks Smart Part Technology to provide automated assembly;
• PDMWorks® data management software, a product data management (PDM) solution that lets workgroups control project data securely and efficiently; and
• eDrawingsT Professional, the first email-enabled communication tool that eases the review of 2D and 3D design information across extended product development teams.
Lindner Traktoren works with authorized SolidWorks reseller Planet! Software & Consulting GmbH for ongoing software training, implementation, and support.
