Sony Ericsson Standardizes on MatrixOne's PLM Environment to Increase Competitive Advantage

MatrixOne, Inc. announced that Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, a major provider of mobile communications products, has selected the Matrix10T environment to enhance its competitive edge in the global mobile communications sector.

Matrix10 will provide a secure, collaborative product development environment across Sony Ericsson's global operations to accelerate product innovation and time-to-market by better managing internal resources, external suppliers and business partners.

The Matrix10 deployment will be rolled out across all of Sony Ericsson's global locations and will enable efficient collaboration with mobile network operators, outsourced manufacturing and design partners, including Flextronics and Sony Manufacturing. In addition it will streamline internal product design and development, enabling the company to quickly and cost-effectively bring new handsets to market.

"Our implementation of Matrix10 is a necessity in order for Sony Ericsson to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive market," said Colin Boyd, corporate vice president for IS/IT, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. "Sony Ericsson is customer focused, but the quality and efficiency of our engineering environment--which makes up more than half of the company--is key to the success of the company, and so we need powerful tools in order to increase productivity and reduce the lead time in bringing new products to market. By standardizing on Matrix10, Sony Ericsson can potentially replace numerous freestanding R&D systems with a single development operations platform. At its essence, Matrix10 will help us to develop better products cheaper."

"Sony Ericsson has been successful as a global player because of its consumer-focused strategy and technical expertise," said Mark F. O'Connell, president and CEO, MatrixOne. "The company understands that the challenges of bringing new products to market are increasing each day. The selection of Matrix10 as the backbone of their global product development efforts will help Sony Ericsson address these challenges in order to continue to increase their competitive advantage and grow market share through continued product leadership and innovation."
