Review 6.2 Takes the Complication Out of Plant Reviews

AVEVA has announced the release of technology in the field of 3D visualization and plant model review. VANTAGE Plant Design Review 6.2 represents major advancements in navigation, information retrieval and overall virtual reality experience. AVEVA anticipates significant improvements to project teams on engineering projects.

Three dimensional, 'virtual reality' is not a new concept in plant and marine engineering projects. Engineers have many demands of the 3D model and its accompanying information during decision-making, construction, safety and maintenance tasks, for example. Software solutions have therefore been packed with functionality to satisfy the needs of the modern project team. This has often resulted in complicated applications that have lacked the intuitive, ergonomic features of the simulation and even the video gaming industries. Consequently, the applications have almost been exclusive to those of high IT literacy. A solution is required that can deliver the right level of reliable, physical and technical information to anyone.

Using Microsoft's .NET technology and the latest Windows look and feel, Review 6.2 anticipates the needs of the reviewing engineer and can deliver any required information as part of the easily-adopted plant navigation. Information from many third-party sources is made available on the desktop, along with fast, detailed measurement, transparency and view controls. The user may also move objects around the plant with immediate feedback of the consequences, allowing 'what if' scenarios and construction sequences to be examined.

Today, projects are executed in multiple locations. Review brings together project teams by linking teams and individuals together. On desktop machines or in project team rooms, Review users can share and review project data through the data browser to display, for example, project status using the 3D model. With active Stereo support, Review can also provide that extra visual feedback necessary for active decision-making.

John Sanins, Head of VANTAGE Plant Design (VPD) at AVEVA said: "Review 6.2 represents a huge leap forward in interactive visualization, allowing engineers to navigate and manipulate the plant as if they were actually there."

"Carrying out regular project reviews can help early identification of issues that cause serious project delays and large, unbudgeted costs. Review 6.2 has set the new benchmark for interactive and high performance visualization of large, detailed process plant projects, enabling users to concentrate on what engineers are good at - making engineering decisions."
