Capgemini & SAP Join Forces To Offer FastPharma Solution to Mid-Tier Pharmaceutical & Biotech Companies

Capgemini US LLC, a global provider of Consulting, Technology and Outsourcing services, announced it has teamed with SAP to develop a rapidly deployable, fixed-price offering specifically for middle market pharmaceutical and biotech companies. FastPharmaT is Capgemini's pre-configured SAP solution that provides this life sciences market with core, integrated ERP business systems to meet FDA compliance & validation requirements, and support future growth.

FastPharma combines SAP's Best Practices for Pharmaceuticals and Capgemini's extensive Life Science industry experience to present a cGxPcompliant, best business practice solution. This solution can also be delivered in a rapid timeframe.

"The FastPharma solution from Capgemini enables companies to quickly create an environment which streamlines operations, gives greater visibility and control of your core business processes, and maintains the flexibility to allow you to be responsive to changes in the industry," said Liam Walsh, vice president at Capgemini. "FastPharma allows leading companies to go beyond compliance and begin charting a growth agenda during 2004."

"In collaboration with Capgemini, we have jointly developed an accelerated solution to enable middle market companies to quickly implement the SAP enterprise suite using preconfigured templates, tools and methods," said Greg Cathcart, vice president of Life Sciences for SAP America. "Capgemini brought deep and robust Life Sciences industry experience as well as their world- renown SAP integration expertise to create a successful solution with immediate impact."

The FastPharma solution is being deployed at Westward Pharmaceuticals in a 26-week implementation as part of a 3-year implementation and outsourcing arrangement.

"Leveraging the full benefits of SAP to power business transformation in the ever-changing pharmaceutical industry is a major priority for our organization," said Fares Awwad, chief financial officer at Westward Pharmaceuticals. "Working with Capgemini and SAP, we are reducing the time to value for IT and business process improvements to allow us to be more competitive in our core business areas."

Other FastPharma features and benefits include:

•  Accelerated implementation timeline leverages Capgemini's proprietary RapidstartT and Deliver SAPT methodology;
•  Validation & compliance requirements and templates are incorporated for all phases of the SAP implementation;
•  Prototypes end-to-end integrated business processes and executes SAP transactions for a more robust Business Blueprint;
•  During the Blueprint (design) phase, project team members are able to gain a better understanding of how processes flow in the SAP system;
•  Acceleration of the realization (development) phase--many Pharmaceutical industry specific requirements are already configured in the FastPharma solution. Numerous development objects including reports, forms, enhancements, and data conversions are already built and require only minimal changes to adapt them to a company's specific requirements.
•  Online end user training tool documentation allows users to spend additional time working with pre-built scenarios early in the project, facilitating quicker end user acceptance and reducing the learning curve related to transacting in SAP.

Capgemini employs approximately 55,000 people worldwide and reported 2003 global revenues of 5.754 billion euros. More information about individual service lines, offices and research is available at http://www.capgemini.com
