Theorem Extends Cadverter Capabilities to Include 3D Routed Systems

CAD/CAM product data exchange specialist, Theorem Solutions has extended the functionality of its recently-announced Revision 8 CADverter range to include the translation of geometry that defines 3D routed pipe and harness systems.

The new capability not only reflects the growth of routed systems in mechanical assemblies-particularly within the aerospace and automotive sectors-but also overcomes the limitations of conventional data translators in dealing with this type of geometry.

Routed systems are commonly found throughout airframe structures and engine externals. They are also growing in complexity, as conventional mechanical components are increasingly replaced by hydraulic and electrical fly-by-wire systems. Exactly the same trends can be seen within the automotive industry. As a result, designs in both these sectors regularly include a combination of traditional 3D design geometry, such as solids and surfaces, together with 3D routed systems information.

Typically, the database structures that specify routed system geometry within each CAD system are defined in a completely different manner to other geometric shapes. These elements are ignored by most conventional translators; so assemblies containing routed information frequently suffer data loss when transferred to the target CAD system.

Theorem's ability to process 3D routed systems geometry currently includes CADDS 5i, CATIA V4 and I-DEAS systems. This will be extended to all major design applications over the coming months, with data output available in all standard CADverter file formats, including CATIA V4, CATIA V5, UGNX, I-DEAS, Pro/E Wildfire, and many more.

Theorem's on-line translation service is at http://www.cadverter.com and information on all its products and services can be found at http://www.theorem-usa.com/ and http://www.theorem.co.uk/
