Exostar and Federation Partner to Improve Industry Collaboration

Exostar, the global marketplace for the aerospace and defense industry and Federation, a developer and supplier of solutions for product lifecycle management software interoperability, announced a partnership agreement to enhance eCollaboration services for Exostar's customers.

Federation's software facilitates the flow of all design and product information as it is created or revised between partners in the design and manufacturing process. The software has been fully integrated into Exostar's ForumPass application. ForumPass is a secure collaboration platform that enables online design and team/project management that transcends geographical and system barriers. Federation's software adds further value to Exostar's collaboration platform by allowing any company to securely and inexpensively interconnect and share engineering product data from their Product Data/Lifecycle Management (PDM/PLM) system with their partners and suppliers.

"Collaboration customers have been struggling with the problem of heterogeneous PDM/PLM system interoperability. Federation's software allows us to answer this challenging market need and extend our value as a secure neutral collaboration environment," said Bill Angeloni, Exostar's chief executive officer. "Coupled with Exostar's other solutions, true external supply chain integration is finally available across procurement and key design and development functions."

Coordination of product data information, both internally and across the extended enterprise, throughout the product life cycle has become a strategic imperative for A&D manufacturers. Product engineering data is the most valuable resource in the product development process as it contains all the information required to define, design, manufacture, assemble, ship and maintain a product. Companies can now easily and securely integrate product data information between multiple PDM systems within or outside the enterprise.

"Exostar has standardized the aerospace and defense procurement process and now has added the ability for their customers to collaborate across the supply chain on sophisticated engineering projects. Companies that don't use Exostar will become non-competitive. The economy of scale and security infrastructure that Exostar brings to the picture can't be matched by most companies working individually," says Andrew Lukes, Federation president and chief executive officer.

Federation, headquartered in the southeast Denver Technology Corridor, is the only provider of a critical product data synchronization solution designed for the special requirements of aerospace, automotive and complex manufacturing environments. Federation software works with Product Data Management and Enterprise Application Integration systems in the specific area of delivering accurate, real-time critical data across disparate sites, systems and architectures. Federation is a partner of Computer Science Corporation, PTC and MatrixOne and has supported high profile, critical projects for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Honeywell, Northrop Grumman and other leading aerospace companies.

Exostar provides a single point of connection for electronic security, commerce and collaboration for global manufacturers and aerospace and defense organizations. Today, more than 13,000 trading partners trust Exostar to provide a highly secure external supply network designed to address the need for managing business processes and information across the extended supply chain. Originally built for the $400 billion global aerospace and defense industry, Exostar's customers include BAE SYSTEMS , Boeing, Lockheed Martin Corp., Raytheon Co. and Rolls-Royce .
