Magma Users to Share Solutions to Nanometer Design Challenges at Third Annual Magma MUSIC Users Group Conference September 16-17, 2004

Magma Design Automation Inc. announced its third annual users group conference, September 16-17 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The conference provides an open forum for users to gain expertise using Magma's chip design software and to exchange ideas about, and solutions for, the challenges of nanometer integrated circuit (IC) and system-on-chip (SoC) designs.

The program will feature tutorials, presentations and chat sessions given by Magma users, design industry experts and Magma's research & development staff. Keynote addresses will be offered by Lee Hanson, vice president, technology and design services for Vitesse and by Jack Harding, chief executive officer of eSilicon. The conference will also feature an exposition where Magma's partners will exhibit products and services complementary to Magma offerings. Attendees will be able to speak directly with Magma partners about design, flow and integration solutions. The MUSIC users group conference is open to all Magma customer companies. MUSIC is also open to design engineers who are currently out of work. Magma will waive the registration fee for these design engineers.

"All the hot design challenges will be covered this year, including design for manufacturing, low-power design, signal integrity management, timing optimization and area reduction," said Pallab Chatterjee, MUSIC chairman. "With the breadth of topics and the expansion of the technical program, this year's conference is going to be extremely educational for Magma users."

User presentation topics will include:

•  "High-performance timing closure techniques for 90-nanometer DSP design."
•  "Leveraging a multi-Vt library to achieve power goals."
•  "Enabling low-cost and ease-of-design using structured ASICs."
•  "Implementing a network device with an RTL-to-GDSII flow that integrates RTL synthesis, DFT and physical design."
•  "Solving timing-critical paths without introducing risk."
•  "Using ESP (Early Silicon Performance), multi-Vt libraries and multi-mode timing optimization for better delivery schedule management."
•  "An Evaluation of an ASIC Handoff Flow Using Blast Create."

Tutorial topics will include:

•  "Techniques for improving area and timing optimization using Blast CreateT."
•  "Ensuring correlation between Blast Noise® and PT-SI in the presence of cross-talk delay effects."
•  "A comprehensive solution for power management and minimization featuring Blast PowerT."
•  "Early design closure using Magma's Black Box methodology and Blast PlanT Pro."
•  "Understanding the unique concurrent, multiple timing optimization capability of Blast Fusion®."
•  "Low-cost ASIC Design Platforms Using Blast FPGAT and Blast SAT."

On Friday, Sept. 17 EE Times Group Editorial Director for Design Automation Richard Goering will moderate a luncheon panel on DFM. Scheduled panel participants are Premal Buch, general manager of Magma's Analysis and Signoff business unit; John Cooley, long-time observer of the electronic design automation industry and moderator of DeepChip.com; Barry Hoberman, chief executive officer of Virtual Silicon Inc.; John Kibarian, CEO of PDF Solutions; Joe Sawicki, vice president and general manager of Mentor Graphics' Design-to-Silicon Division; and Naveed Sherwani, CEO of Open Silicon. The panel is open to all MUSIC attendees.

Some of the Magma partners exhibiting in the MUSIC Partners Pavilion include Artisan Components, Cadence Design Systems, Chartered Semiconductor Corporation, Fishtail, Legend Design Technology, Nassda Corporation, Silicon Canvas, SiliconMap, Virage Logic and Virtual Silicon Technology.
