Gerber Technology Complements its GERBERsuite Product Line through Strategic Alliances
During the CISMA 2004 show in Shanghai, China Gerber Technology will be joined by several of its partners: "best of breed" companies that supply products and services that complement its core GERBERsuite offerings.
Unit Production Automation
Gerber Technology continues its strong alliance with Eton Systems AB ( http://www.eton.se/ ) a global supplier of unit production systems with several cooperative appearances at key exhibitions. Gerber is also collaborating with Eton to launch a cutting-edge order tracking system that will enable customers to follow an order through the material spreading, cutting, assembly and shipping processes via an ordinary cell phone.
Product Development and Design Automation
Gerber Technology maintains a partnership with Shanghai Younger Technology Co Ltd. ( http://www.etex.com.cn/ ) of Shanghai for the company to distribute and support Gerber's WebPDM product data management software in China. Shanghai Younger also distributes an ERP system: there are currently 200 companies using Younger's ERP system in China, most of these are in the apparel industry. Younger Technology will be present on Gerber's CISMA booth to demonstrate how WebPDM integrates with their ERP solution.
In China, Gerber Technology also offers TexPro Fashion Design System as part of its GERBERsuite. TexPro is an integrated conceptual and design software which offers functionality to create and edit sketches, design knits and weaves, reduce and match colors, and map clothing on sketches or photographs in three dimensions in multiple layers.
Made-to-Measure Automation
[TC]², ( http://www.tc2.com/ ) a recognized supplier in body scanning, manufactures technology that scans the entire human body in less than six seconds and produces a true-to-scale 3D body model within minutes. The software automatically extracts hundreds of body measurements which can be used in designing custom fitting apparel. Body scanning technology from [TC]2 is installed in Gerber Technology's Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Shanghai, China. Once the body is scanned data is sent directly to Gerber's AccuMark system for pattern generation.
"Size China" Project
Gerber Technology has been chosen as part of the "Size China" project being carried out by the Apparel Cyber Tech Center (ACTC) at the College of Textile & Garment of Guangzhou University. A team from Institut TPC Hong Kong/Paris is training the students participating in the project. They will use Gerber's AccuMarkT V8 software installed on 110 CAD workstations. The ultimate goal of the "Size China" project is to manufacture better fitting garments. The study is supported by the central government in Beijing which has declared the profession of fashion designers to be important for China's future economy.
TPC (HK) Limited ( http://www.tpc-intl.com/ ) is a garment technology consulting firm [the name stands for Three-dimensional Pattern Concept] that uses a series of human body data obtained from a 3-dimensional body scanner to make 2-dimensional patterns. TPC software creates a virtual mannequin and generates a complete set of production patterns according to the model's unique body profile. When integrated with Gerber's AccuMark PDS software, the resulting patterns are similar to those stripped off a 3D garment form, making the attainment of "fit" much easier. As a result fit is perfected before garment samples are made. Witness TPC Hong Kong's technology solutions on Gerber Technology's booth.
