Queensland Tooling Network Appoints Single Source CAD/CAM Supplier

After evaluating submissions of CAD/CAM technology suppliers, the Queensland Tooling Network QTN has appointed Product Lifecycle Management Australasia (plm) as its preferred single source supplier for CAD/CAM and related technical computing requirements.

The agreement will see plm supply the Unigraphics NX suite of technologies to QTN's network of over 30 tool and die makers throughout Queensland. In addition, QTN's trading organization PARTEC has been positioned as an academic partner and user of Unigraphics NX technology (for which plm has an exclusive distribution agreement in Australia).

QTN Executive, Mr. Richard Tovey of R&K Engineering Services, says the organization looked long and hard at all proposals because a key driver of the move was to establish a preferred supplier that as a group QTN could work with.

"By naming a single source for CAD/CAM and related technical computing systems, the entire network has the opportunity develop new technologies and expand in unison knowing that there is no chance of trying to operate with a disparate arrangement of products," said Mr. Tovey.

"The move is a unanimous one, it allows us to move forward as a group, and the technology range embodied by the Unigraphics NX products plm distributes will take our R&D activity and design capabilities into the next level of world's best practice.

"It will help consolidate and grow our domestic markets as well as refine our competitive level on the competitive global tooling market." Our operating costs are streamlined, and the level of technology we have at our disposal through plm is world class.

"This agreement is seen as providing our members with significant long term competitive advantages that are expected to enable accelerated technology development both as individual organizations and as a network of related and cooperative specialist companies."

Every member of QTN can contact plm for assistance with development of collaboration hubs, and in association with Partec will benefit from a number of technical and development seminars that will be scheduled throughout this financial year.

Furthermore, the arrangement between QTN and plm facilitates trade-in options for those wishing to change CAD/CAM systems, product discounts, and ongoing assistance and involvement with QTN.

"As part of this agreement, plm is joining QTN as a supplier member and we look forward to the organization's ongoing involvement and contribution," said Mr. Tovey.

plm is the master distributor in Australasia for the USA-based UGS Corporation. Its main products include Unigraphics NX, I-deas, UG CAM, FactoryCAD, NX Nastran, Femap, Solid Edge, Teamcenter and Imageware.
