Newview Technologies Announces MSM 4; Solution Connects Product Development and the Extended Supply Chain to Streamline Costs; Rolls-Royce Using MSM 4 in Strategic New Product Design

Newview Technologies Inc., a provider of direct material specification and procurement solutions, introduced Material Specification Management, MSM 4, a new technology offering that helps companies manage the complexity of their material environment. By connecting Product Development, Purchasing, and the Extended Supply Chain, MSM 4 delivers a new standard of visibility and control of critical cost drivers that can represent greater than 30 percent of a manufactured part's cost profile.

Newview's MSM 4 was designed to meet the needs of today's manufacturers of highly engineered products. With an increasing shift towards outsourced part manufacturing, companies that once controlled material decisions now operate in a challenging environment where decisions are distributed throughout the extended supply chain. The resulting fragmentation of purchasing power and proliferation of material specifications makes it difficult to control the material cost as a component of the total part price. MSM 4 addresses this challenge by providing a coordinated view of a critical data allowing design engineers and part commodity managers to coordinate efficient design and sourcing decisions consistent with a Total Cost Management approach.

"Today, detailed material data is managed in multiple systems, documents, and engineering drawings, making it difficult to affect part costs deep in the supply chain," said Paul Strzelec, Newview's Marketing and Strategy Executive. "MSM 4 was purposed to coordinate Design-to-Buy decisions that allow companies operating in outsourced manufacturing environments to deliver the most efficient cost model possible," added Strzelec.

Rolls-Royce plc, a leader in the Global Aerospace Industry, is using MSM 4 to organize their metals spend, identify opportunities to reduce the number of materials sourced throughout their extended supply chain, and begin to re-shape their material mix and supplier relationships to deliver cost efficiencies. "MSM 4 is a foundational part of our Global Metals Strategy" said Dr. David M. Dawson, Materials Purchasing Executive at Rolls-Royce. "It is imperative that we approach our sourcing decisions understanding the details behind our cost drivers and make decisions that ensure an efficient materials supply chain" added Dawson.

Highlights of MSM 4 include the following

•  Structured Repository and Parametric Search: A single location for storing detailed material data and related part and commercial data. Intelligent search capability provides quick and detailed retrieval of information for business users across functions.
•  Comparison Views and Commonization Profiles: A highly attributed data model allows users to build material views that compare/contrast similarities against a set of target materials.
•  Material Reuse Alerts: Alert Design Engineers of pre-approved materials before costlier alternatives are selected in a design.
•  Collaborative Material Management: A framework for communicating material decisions throughout the extended supply chain.
•  Configurable Architecture: Built on Newview's Network Business Process ArchitectureT, allowing for integration of material data and processes with Newview's CNP (Coordinated Network Procurement), and other systems such as Product Lifecycle Management and ERP.

Newview Technologies Inc. ( http://www.newview.com/ ) develops direct material specification and procurement solutions that connect Product Development and Procurement. Companies that select Newview are able to create cost advantages by bringing visibility and control to raw materials and standard components. Built on Newview's flexible Network Business Process ArchitectureT, these solutions are easily configurable, work with existing business applications and can be deployed in 90 days.

Founded in September 1998, Newview Technologies Inc. is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas and delivers value for customers that include DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, Rolls-Royce, and BHP Steel. The company is supported by strategic investors led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
