Mentor Graphics Offers New Libraries for PADS PCB Design Customers
Mentor Graphics Corporation announced it has established business agreements with Optimum Design Associates (Optimum) and PCB Libraries to make their libraries available for use with the Mentor Graphics® PADS® PCB design flow. These agreements, under Mentor's policy of open endorsement, will allow PADS customers to choose from major suppliers of component libraries in order to assure the highest quality and selection of components when creating their electronic products. The production-ready, integrated and fully documented library of symbols, decals (footprints) and a large parts database will allow PADS users to reduce the task of library creation and proceed to design and layout processes as quickly as possible. For current PADS customers using Mentor's DxDesignerT or PADS Layout (formerly PowerPCBT) the new partnerships offer economical, production-tested, high-quality resources to quickly expand existing libraries.
"Both Optimum and PCB Libraries allow direct interaction with suppliers of quality component symbols and footprints. This access can translate into significant time and resource savings as the designer will not need to develop libraries from scratch for use within the PADS flow," said Syed Gilani, general manager, PADS Business Unit, Mentor Graphics. "These libraries are of high quality, documented and built to recognize industry standards. They provide a viable template for the customer to adopt internally for their own corporate needs. These libraries are useful both for small start-ups and larger corporations that want to avoid the time investment required to create their own libraries."
These agreements with respected industry library providers, as well as the previously established partnership with PCB Standards, illustrate Mentor's continued investment and ongoing strategy to supply quality libraries to its customer and provide designers with the necessary tools to enhance their productivity. The agreements provide both free and cost-based sources of additional library component information for users of Mentor's products that enhance productivity and time-to-market.
"Optimum Design Associates is proud to release our DxDesignerT PADS library with its broad cross section of available parts. We've incorporated customer feedback from our four years of library sales experience to make this library extremely appealing to PCB designers and engineers," said Nick Barbin, president, Optimum Design Associates.
"PCB Libraries' mission of eliminating duplication to reduce costs from PCB design to manufacture is only achievable through the creation of a world standard CAD library. We gladly teamed up with IPC and other world standard organizations to ensure this happens, which in turn will make our vision of automatic electronic product development an amazing reality," said Tom Hausherr, CEO and director of technology, PCB Libraries.
"The libraries have been a huge time saver-not just in the initial phase of importing the design, but also in creating all necessary follow-up documentation. The libraries are an essential part to increasing efficiency of the entire product development cycle: the work is done correctly the first time, and it does not need to be repeated," said long-time PADS user, John Zsori, president, Corporate Engineering Services.
"Our work accuracy greatly increased and the overall design cycle time decreased; we can complete our layouts far more efficiently than ever," said Mike Creeden, San Diego PCB.
Optimum Design Associates is a provider of PCB design libraries, library administration services (custom part creation), layout, engineering, and turnkey manufacturing services. Other libraries from Optimum include the DxDesigner ExpeditionT and Design CaptureT Expedition work flow. Established in 1991, they continue to meet the challenge of creating complex, high-density designs for some of the world's leading high-tech firms.. Optimum has offices in California and Australia that support all services. For more information, visit http://www.optimumdesign.com
PCB Libraries is a team within the PCB industry who seek to eliminate the waste of resources associated with the creation of CAD libraries. Land pattern calculators have been tested and are currently used by designers and engineers at companies such as Intel, Honeywell, AGFA, Panasonic, Sandia National Laboratories, and Coretec. PCB Libraries has teamed with a number of organizations to help ensure the PCB based products are the most accurate and useful available, and continuously enhance and updates its products. Corporate headquarters are located at Des Plaines, IL. For more information, please visit http://www.PCBLibraries.com
