AVEVA Launches VANTAGE Project Resource Management Version 9.5

AVEVA has launched version 9.5 of its VANTAGE® Project Resource Management (VPRM) product, a comprehensive solution for the management and control of materials for EPC contractors, clients, vendors and sub-contractors. VPRM 9.5 delivers a productivity improvement for material engineers including an automated preliminary Materials Take-off (MTO) from Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

Executing an engineering project is a complex process. An effective management system that controls all project resources is a significant factor in ensuring the project is executed to schedule and to budget.

In the early stages of an EPC project, it is usual to undertake a preliminary piping MTO to start the procurement process in long-lead items and to obtain early estimates for bulk items. To date, this has usually been a manual task based on information taken from P&IDs and 'Line-Shoot' layouts. The P&ID identifies systems and process components while layout drawings are used to identify routing components such as piping and elbows. The process is particularly vulnerable to the high level of change at this stage in the project.

VPRM 9.5 automates the transfer of lines and their content from P&IDs as they are issued. It enables process components to be automatically mapped onto VPRM numbers and physical components to be added.

The process allows the preliminary MTO task to be completed swiftly and accurately, providing instant totaling such as valve counts. Immediate visibility of changes from subsequent updates is provided to enable immediate response. VPRM can receive issued data directly from AVEVA's VANTAGE Plant Engineering (VPE) P&ID or from any third party P&ID system through an XML- based interface.

Dan Stephenson, Head of VANTAGE Project Resource Management at AVEVA commented: "AVEVA has invested several hundred man-years in VPRM's development. It is a well-proven system with an unrivalled record in project application. It has been used on hundreds of projects of all sizes and types, by some of the biggest names in the plant engineering industry. The latest release, version 9.5, is designed to improve even further on its excellent track record."

The rest of VPRM Version 9.5 is focused on significant enhancements right across the solution, including material deviation during the procurement cycle, engineering approval of vendor-suggested material changes and an audit trail of material description changes.
