Intergraph Process, Power & Marine Awards Educational Grant for INtools and SmartSketch Software to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology

The Process, Power & Marine division of Intergraph Corporation has awarded an educational program grant for INtools® and SmartSketch® software, installation and training valued at more than US$360,000 to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Canada. The grant includes more than 50 licenses for the INtools instrumentation engineering, design and lifecycle plant operation support software and the SmartSketch intelligent production drafting, diagramming and drawing software. SAIT will use the software for courses in its Industrial Instrumentation Technology program and in the Syncrude Canada FOUNDATION Fieldbus Lab, part of the BP Control Engineering Technology Center.

"The SAIT Industrial Instrumentation Technology and Instrument Technician Apprenticeship programs welcome the new relationship with Intergraph. Use of advanced Intergraph technology, such as INtools and SmartSketch, helps to provide industry training relevant to our students," said Dennis Lidfors, academic coordinator-Industrial Instrumentation, SAIT.

The industrial instrumentation programs provide students with training in operation and maintenance of instrument and control devices and systems. Students gain practical experience in computer applications used in instrumentation, process control systems design, fieldbus, SCADA, PLC and related areas. Lab facilities include pilot-scale versions of processes found in various industries and a fully equipped control room. The Syncrude Canada FOUNDATION Fieldbus Lab ( http://www.sait.ab.ca/fieldbus/overview.htm ) includes eight unique fieldbus training stations representing equipment from more than 20 manufacturers.

SAIT ( http://www.sait.ab.ca/ ) is recognized globally for quality education and is considered Canada's premier technical institution. SAIT offers 63 certificate and diploma programs, four applied degrees, 25 apprenticeship programs and more than 1,000 career and personal development courses. Known for its strong partnerships with industry leaders, SAIT serves more than 60,000 students yearly through classroom, distance and online learning programs. Founded in 1916, the post-secondary technical institution is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Intergraph Process, Power & Marine educational grant program helps build student proficiency and experience in using the popular Intergraph engineering software. For educational institutions, the program brings advanced technology software to the classroom, expands course offerings at minimal cost and enables instructors to upgrade skills through free commercial training. For program and application details, see http://ppm.intergraph.com/education

Grant recipients under the standard program are eligible to receive INtools, SmartPlant® P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical and SmartSketch software and maintenance; instructor training; technical installation assistance; and one complimentary registration for the Intergraph Process, Power & Marine APEX industry conference. A program option includes PDS® and SmartPlant Review, depending on institution curriculum and expertise.

Educational institutions worldwide with engineering and technical curricula associated with the process manufacturing, power generation and offshore petroleum industries are eligible to apply for grants, which have a one-year, renewable term. The annual administrative fee for grant recipients is waived if the institution is a member of FIATECH ( http://www.fiatech.org/ ). Intergraph and the FIATECH industry consortium are working together to promote the educational grants by pooling resources to offer the program to a broad range of educational institutions.
