Gehry Technologies Announces Digital Project, Revolutionary New Software for the Construction Industry
Gehry Technologies, an independent company created out of Gehry Partners in 2002, has announced the first customer shipment of Digital ProjectT, a new category of software applications for use in building design, engineering, fabrication and construction.
Digital Project is a revolutionary new software platform that enables building teams to realize ambitious projects by working with digital technologies. Digital Project supports the lifecycle of construction projects-from design and engineering to fabrication, construction project management, and on-site construction activities-in a collaborative digital environment.
The first company to take delivery of Digital Project is London-based Adams Kara Taylor (AKT), a prominent consulting company in the civil and structural engineering fields and a leader in the implementation of advanced digital tools. "Digital Project will provide value in terms of data flow on both complex and simple forms and will re-establish the links between designers and craftsmen," stated Hanif Kara, Director of AKT.
Digital Project supports the development of a comprehensive project database and facilitates building information modeling, thereby enabling companies to reduce errors in the building process, integrate financial and project-management data with project geometry, and ultimately reduce costs involved with paper-based design methods. Digital Project has been built on 15 years of experience gained by Gehry Partners in the use of CATIA in building design, digital contracting, project delivery coordination and construction.
Underlying Digital Project is advanced CATIA V5 geometry, which has revolutionized the aerospace, automotive and manufacturing industries. Digital Project is natively compatible with all products in Dassault Systèmes' V5 software family.
Last year, Gehry Technologies secured external investment for a minority ownership of its business, the mission of which is to provide advanced building delivery technologies to the AEC industries. Dassault Systèmes has provided the majority of this investment. Gehry Technologies is also a Gold Software Partner within Dassault Systèmes' Component Application Architecture Version 5 (CAA V5) Partnership Program.
"The effective application of integrated, digitally driven methodologies and construction tools, such as Digital Project, can have a significant effect on the quality of construction," said Jim Glymph, CEO of Gehry Technologies. "By fostering process improvement and collaboration between members of the construction team, risk is reduced, change orders are minimized, and project teams have a better chance of delivering buildings on time and on budget."
"By adapting this technology to buildings and adding new functionality for construction, Digital Project will significantly expand the market for virtual design and construction," said Dominique Florack, senior vice president for research and development strategy at Dassault Systèmes. "In addition, Digital Project represents the creation of a true Building Information Model and database that will facilitate the application of better PLM solutions for building operations, maintenance, and security."
