EPCs and Owner/Operators to Benefit From Increased Accuracy and Faster Project Execution of Brownfield Plant Revamps and Maintenance

AVEVA Group plc has formed a technical alliance with BitWyse Solutions, Inc., a data management company for engineering and construction plant design. The alliance means users of AVEVA's flagship VANTAGE® Plant Design Management System (PDMS) will be able to view existing conditions data, project dimensional control and fabrication information within both the PDMS 3D and Review environments.

As more and more capital budget is being allocated to revamping existing plants, plant owners and their EPC contactors are recognizing the need to capture accurate as-built plant information for use as the primary design reference. EPCs and Owner/Operator firms will be able to deliver brownfield plant revamp and maintenance projects quickly, accurately and with higher quality by using the latest laser scanning hardware and sophisticated laser point cloud data in combination with the PDMS digital plant model.

Under the agreement, AVEVA will link to BitWyse's LASERGen, allowing companies to use raw scan data within minutes of the data being captured. LASERGen will facilitate the display of point clouds from multiple scanner formats within PDMS and Review, allowing the user to both view and interact with the 3D model and laser scanned point cloud data in a single design environment.

John Sanins, AVEVA's Head of Plant Design commented:   "We believe this alliance opens up considerable business opportunities for our design/build EPC customers, particularly in the Americas, where most of the plant and offshore construction growth is forecasted to be in revamp projects. The underlying software technology available within the LASERGen product allows us to view, interact and design in-context with as-built data processed by BitWyse. Combined with the speed of integration with PDMS, this will yield large engineering time and cost savings to our EPC and Owner/Operator clients.

Aligning PDMS to the LASERGen product from BitWyse further consolidates part of AVEVA's as-built engineering strategy and strengthens the platform on which we provide open access to packaged laser point cloud data in PDMS. This latest alliance recognizes BitWyse as one of the leading laser scanning development companies in the market today. We are extremely pleased to be sharing and developing technology to the mutual benefit of our customers."

Mark Klusza, President of BitWyse commented:   "Revamp projects pose a number of challenges to EPCs and Owner/Operators. Even if you have the digital 3D model of the facility, there will be variations-components aren't always fabricated exactly to specification and many times what was designed isn't what gets constructed. BitWyse brings PDMS customers the added value of dimensional control-the ability to compare immediately fabricated parts and actual construction to the PDMS design model. This real-time validation dramatically reduces the need for re-work at the construction site, and can significantly boost project ROI."
