Magma and Mentor Graphics Announce TestKompress Integration into RTL-to-GDSII Flow

Magma Design Automation Inc. and Mentor Graphics Corporation announced an interoperability agreement to integrate the Mentor Graphics® TestKompress® embedded deterministic test (EDTT) tool into Magma's RTL-to-GDSII design system. Through this agreement, Mentor and Magma will provide mutual customers with an integrated IC implementation flow that includes comprehensive design-for-test (DFT) capabilities to ensure design closure and testability of nanometer designs.

The TestKompress tool provides high-quality manufacturing test for today's nanometer designs. It employs a patented compression technology to reduce test time and test data volume by up to 100X, enabling users to apply the additional tests needed to maintain high test quality while its deterministic approach ensures the highest possible test coverage. The TestKompress tool fits into any scan-based design flow without disruption to the core design or test methodology.

"It's imperative that our test solutions fit easily into any standard design flow, so we're pleased to be able to announce with Magma a comprehensive solution with our TestKompress tool," said Robert Hum, vice president and general manager, Design Verification and Test division, Mentor Graphics. "This collaboration with Magma enables us to provide our joint customers with an integrated flow from RTL to compressed test pattern generation."

Magma provides a complete, integrated RTL-to-GDSII design system within a single executable. Blast CreateT and Blast Fusion® are the key components of this integrated flow. Blast Create provides a predictable path from RTL to placed gates. It is a unified environment for logic synthesis, physical synthesis, DFT analysis and insertion, power optimization and static timing analysis. Blast Fusion is an advanced physical design system that delivers complete design closure with better timing, smaller area, lower power, faster turnaround time and higher capacity than conventional point-tool flows. The integration of TestKompress into the Magma flow equips customers with a powerful design and test solution for nanometer devices.

"This integration will be a tremendous help in quality improvement and productivity to Magma customers who design complex SoCs for 130- and 90-nanometer processes," said Yatin Trivedi, director of product marketing at Magma. "We are very happy to work with Mentor on this integration of TestKompress, an industry-leading tool for generating compact manufacturing test vectors for nanometer designs."
