UGS Supplies E-factory for Manufacturing Data Management and Process Planning to American Axle & Manufacturing

UGS announced American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM) has deployed the second phase of UGS' E-factory digital manufacturing data management and process planning system.

AAM is a world leader in the design, engineering and manufacture of driveline systems, chassis systems and metal-formed products and services for light trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars.

AAM originally selected E-factory to capture, organize and control its manufacturing engineering information. The AAM system, named the "Manufacturing Engineering deskTop (MEdT)," enables the company to capture best practices and disseminate them throughout the organization.

The phase two implementation, which makes the E-factory solution available to additional AAM plants, extends the value of MEdT from design engineering all the way to the factory floor.

The E-factory solution leverages design engineering data via the existing UGS Teamcenter® product data management (PDM) system. E-factory's ability to manage a multi-computer-aided design (CAD) environment makes it easier for users to work with customers and suppliers. E-factory technology helps companies achieve their vision of bringing design engineering and manufacturing engineering together as one.

"Our E-factory solutions are gaining considerable attention from leading manufacturers throughout the world," said Al Hufstetler, vice president of digital manufacturing product management at UGS. "These companies recognize the tremendous benefits that can be achieved by using Digital Manufacturing technology to improve manufacturing engineering planning the same way that CAD and PDM were used to improve design engineering years ago."

Developed specifically for companies with complex manufacturing processes whose success depends on bringing more products to market faster and for less cost, E-factory promotes efficient collaboration and informed decision-making, enables rapid response to product design changes, facilitates the use of best practices and ensures that defined processes will achieve anticipated results.

AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, engineering, design and validation of driveline systems and related components and modules, chassis systems and metal-formed products for light trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars. In addition to its 14 locations in the United States (in Michigan, New York and Ohio), AAM also has offices and facilities in Brazil, England, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico and Scotland.
