Sandwork Design Offers Fast Analog, Mixed-Signal Waveform Support for Cadence Virtuoso Platform

Sandwork Design Inc. announced that its analog and mixed-signal waveform analysis tool, WaveView Analyzer, has been integrated into the Virtuoso Aptivia Specification-Driven Environment and Virtuoso UltraSim for FastSPICE simulation from Cadence Design Systems Inc.

WaveView Analyzer is a waveform analysis tool for viewing and summarizing data produced by SPICE-level and Verilog simulators. Virtuoso Specification-driven Environment manages and simulates analog and mixed-signal (AMS) test benches from spec-driven design methodologies. The Virtuoso UltraSim simulator provides high-performance capacity while maintaining silicon accuracy in the toughest analog and RF circuits.

With AMS designs now comprising 50% of all ASIC design starts, verification of design functionality is a gating factor in time to market for analog and mixed-signal products. Design iterations are very costly, so the ability to perform analysis is critical to minimize cost and avoid respins.

"Customers have requested a fast, feature-rich analog waveform solution for analyzing results across multiple simulation runs," said Jack Yao, president and CEO of Sandwork. "Through the Cadence Connections program, we have produced a common interface for schematic cross-probing that is very easy to use. The common interface makes customers far more productive during the analog phase of design."

"The Cadence/Sandwork initiative is built on the Cadence Connection program for open collaboration, bringing emerging third-party solutions to the customer's design chain quickly," said John Wright, director of CIC product marketing at Cadence. "Our users wanted an efficient flow from specification to analysis. Sandwork has a complementary customer-proven AMS waveform analysis solution, which, when combined with the Virtuoso Specification-driven Environment, helps address such specific customer needs as speed and analog functionality. In addition, the WaveView analysis tool supports Virtuoso UltraSim, which enables customers to quickly and efficiently analyze large amounts of simulation data. This is a good example of how Cadence uses an open collaboration approach to deliver customer-focused solutions."

Through participation in the Cadence Connections program, Sandwork was able to integrate WaveView Analyzer into the Cadence Virtuoso custom design platform. Through effective memory management techniques, Sandwork developers managed to make efficient use of memory, so the product takes very little memory to run. Customers now have an efficient interface to the Virtuoso Schematic Editor, the Virtuoso Analog Design Environment, and the Virtuoso Specification-driven Environment, and can take advantage of the speed, capacity and functionality of the WaveView Analyzer.

"The combined power of Virtuoso UltraSim, Virtuoso Specification-driven Environment and WaveView Analyzer enables a wider, deeper, and more efficient exploration of the design space," added Jack Yao. "In their push toward optimal designs and faster turnaround time, more customers are leveraging our emerging EDA capabilities."
