AVEVA Supports $4.05 Billion CSPC Nanhai Project

AVEVA Group plc is working with CSPC, China National Offshore Corporation (CNOOC) and Shell Petrochemicals Company Limited as part of the $4.05 billion Nanhai project to consolidate and manage complex engineering data for interconnected petrochemical process plants under construction in Daya Bay, the Guangdong province of South-East China.

The project depends on reliable data with proper classification, coordination and control -- not only to keep to required timelines and budgets, but to maintain a coherent information model of the plant for handover into operation. It is critical for controlled engineering information to be accurate and available at all times so that all project personnel can access it and make decisions with confidence.

The challenge for CSPC Nanhai was to manage fragmented information from a diversity of applications from different vendors without compromising the project's time to market. AVEVA provided the Data Warehouse Portal (DWP) solution with its VANTAGE Enterprise NET (VNET) software technology, an engineering portal which also acts as an integrated engineering information hub. VNET pulls together vast quantities of engineering data and CAD models through one central hub, and presents it in a format that is accessible to development teams across the globe.

Until recently, the incompatibility of IT solutions, legacy systems and the overlap between disparate applications have blocked successful integration of engineering IT on large construction projects. AVEVA's VNET takes advantage of latest technological developments in the web and data standards to overcome these difficulties.

Under their agreement, AVEVA has successfully provided its VNET software solution to the consortium of international companies involved in the project to improve the efficiency of the design and construction phases of the project lifecycle.

The implementation was facilitated by AVEVA team in the UK. This was coupled with local Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking AVEVA staff based in the Guangzhou office 80 km from the project site.

The CSPC project is currently under construction and start up is scheduled for end of 2005. The petrochemical project will use the crude oil intermediate product naptha to produce a multitude of plastic polymers including: polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene.
