MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Group Germany Improves CAE Processes with Virtual Product Development Tools from MSC.Software

MSC.Software Corp. announced that MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Germany has improved their CAE simulation processes through the integrated use of MSC.Software's SimOffice tools MSC.Marc and MSC.Nastran. By combining the use of these tools, MAN has improved their simulation processes and increased productivity up to 30%, compared to use of previous software solutions.
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge currently uses a number of CAD systems and simulation tools, including MSC.Nastran and MSC.Marc. In concert with complementary software packages, the use of MSC.Nastran resulted in dramatic improvements to the product development process due to improved interfaces between the software tools and the implementation of new commercial MSC.Nastran modules. A smoother and easier workflow has resulted in both time-savings and improvements in the quality of calculations.
"The work done at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is an excellent example on how the integrated use of our Virtual Product Development products is resulting in very tangible return on investment metrics for our customers," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "The key differentiator for MSC.Software is our ability to provide customers with a broad, integrated portfolio of products that is unmatched in the PLM and VPD market. The competent development team at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has done an excellent job of optimizing their CAE processes. By continuing to use these products and others in concert with traditional physical prototyping techniques, customers such as MAN can dramatically improve their product development processes."
"MSC.Marc and MSC.Nastran provide a perfect combination for our engineering specifications and tasks", said Dr. Ulrich Breitling, senior manager technical calculation at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge. "With these Virtual Product Development tools some of our calculations can be performed significantly more efficiently and cost effectively than with our former systems."
MAN is using MSC.Nastran primarily for static and dynamic simulation of full vehicles, assemblies or components and MSC.Marc for nonlinear simulation of complex deformable bodies and contact issues. The main goal of MAN engineers is to integrate Virtual Product Development tools as early as possible into the development process, thus giving designers the right direction with regard to dimensioning components and assemblies. The new tools help to accelerate the product development process and to reduce cost benefits which can be passed on directly to the customers of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge.
