Spatial Announces R14 Release of 3D Modeling and Data Interoperability Products; Release Focused on Addressing Interoperability Issues for the Market

Spatial Corp., a Dassault Systemes company announced the R14 release of their 3D Modeling and Data Interoperability product lines. Focused on addressing customer's interoperability issues throughout the manufacturing process, the R14 release from Spatial firmly establishes the 3D ACIS Modeler as the premier interoperability modeling kernel while continuing to demonstrate Spatial's understanding of the need for accurate, reliable and proven data translators.

"As a Beta Customer for the R14 release Lambda Research, developer of optical analysis and design software TracePro, is extremely impressed with the quality and reliability of the release, not to mention the new functionality," said Groot Gregory, Vice President, Lambda Research. "We can say without qualification that this is the best release we have ever received from Spatial and once again demonstrates their desire to continually raise the bar in terms of their products."

"Over the past four years Spatial has continually demonstrated an understanding of customer needs and the market as a whole," said Ken Versprille, Ph.D., Research Director, CPD Associates. "The R14 release exemplifies their efforts to provide leading solutions for the interoperability issues that face all segments of the market, especially those found in downstream manufacturing."

The R14 release of Spatial's 3D Modeling products builds on the strength of ACIS as the premier 3D modeling kernel for interoperability. New and enhanced functionality in ACIS R14 is targeted to support downstream applications that rely on imported CAD data in their workflow and includes:

• A new Healing function that allows the application to heal translated models to a specified manufacturing tolerance. The new Healing function operates faster and more robustly than standard healing, which attempts to close model gaps within modeling, not manufacturing, precision.

• The Remove Faces function has improved blend recognition and removal. This improvement allows applications to increase users' productivity in preparing models for manufacturing or simulation.

• Improvement in the detection and repair of bad geometry, further enhancing ACIS capabilities for working with translated data.

• The InterOp R14 release supports the latest versions of the leading CAD systems, including CATIA V5, Solidworks, Inventor, Pro/Engineer and Unigraphics. In addition to updated version support the InterOp R14 release includes:

• OpenHSF support for the CATIA V5 Reader. This allows users to rapidly translate CATIA V5 assemblies and parts into the open, streaming .HSF format and provides users with the capability to provide model thumbnails, preview or viewing functions without having to translate the geometry.

• Enhanced support for assemblies. The R14 release now supports reading Solidworks assembly files and CATIA V5 assembly handling has been enhanced. Previous releases allowed users to read CATIA V5 assembly files; however, R14 adds the ability to write CATIA V5 assembly files. These new enhancements continue to demonstrate Spatial's role as the market leading provider of CATIA V5 translation solutions.

• New features targeted at manufacturing applications. InterOp R14 includes enhancements made to translate reference data that is crucial to the manufacturing processes, such as reading coordinate systems and layer filters. Translating coordinate systems allows V5 users to specify reference axis for intelligent measuring and machining of parts. Layers filters allow users to group features on models. Applications can then use this grouping to assign intelligent manufacturing processes to all geometry that belongs to the group.
