BMW ORACLE Racing Selects NetIDEAS' Hosted PTC Windchill ProjectLink to Help Design Challenger for Next America's Cup
NetIDEAS Inc. (NetIDEAS) announced its support of BMW ORACLE Racing in their pursuit of victory at the 32nd America's Cup in 2007 in Valencia, Spain. BMW ORACLE Racing has selected Windchill ProjectLinkT software from PTC hosted by NetIDEAS to help the team meet the product development challenges common to engineering for competitive racing teams. As the Challenger of Record, BMW ORACLE Racing expects to be in a strong position to challenge for the America's Cup and has built a worldwide team to design and sail their next racing yacht.
The BMW ORACLE Racing team is an international team comprised of people from 17 different nations. "Our design team is spread from New Zealand, to Maryland, to Seattle, Germany and Spain but we need to work like we're geographically together on this campaign," said Ian Burns, BMW ORACLE Racing Design Coordinator. "The need to effectively share our design data across continents and time zones and ensure the integrity of that data is vital to our success," Burns said. "With NetIDEAS' implementation of Windchill ProjectLink software, we are all able to collaborate and work on the same design and analysis files regardless of our location. Using PTC's Pro/ENGINEER WildfireT 2.0 design and analysis software makes this even easier by incorporating the file management and design tasks into one package."
"BMW ORACLE Racing has recognized the opportunities inherent in global product development," said Iain Michel, vice president, strategic planning and business development at PTC. "At PTC, we're excited to partner with the team, particularly given the distributed design process and extreme engineering requirements. This hosted solution is perfect for engineering teams like BMW ORACLE Racing who routinely face the challenges of global design and project collaboration."
" NetIDEAS was chosen to host ProjectLink for BMW ORACLE Racing because of their experience with the solution, the security and availability of their deployment, and their 24 x 7 x 365 support capabilities. We focus on our job while NetIDEAS takes care of the system for us," said Burns. "In addition, once we chose them we were up, running and storing files within minutes."
"We are thrilled to help BMW ORACLE Racing win back the America's Cup for the United States by supporting their global collaboration needs," said Steve Bruneau, Vice President, Commercial Markets, NetIDEAS.
